UIC Physiology Alumni
I am hoping you will participate and use it to interact with your fellow alumni
New students
On Friday, August 21 we had a reception for our new students. I have attached the flyer
prepared for the event to introduce you to our new students. One is working toward a PhD and
two are in the MD/PhD program.
Thesis defense
One student has successfully defended his MS thesis since my last update:
Nathan W. Roberts
Mouse models of Muscular dystrophy and type 2 diabetes.
Transitions
Kathleen Engstrom has joined the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA). A
reception was held in her honor and the pictures are posted here:

You will notice a lot of people from other Departments. This is because for a number of years
she has split duties between our department and Microbiology. She has also helped out in the
Dean’s office and before coming here she had been in the Office of Research Services.
Ela Klapczynska has moved to the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University as
Senior Grants Administrator.
