Annual Report
Carrington Junior School provides a happy and secure environment with inspiring teaching
ensuring all pupils achieve their full potential. Where necessary, pupils are given additional
support.

1. The SEND provision at Carrington Junior School is on an individual basis
ensuring attained progress and monitoring of all pupils, including those defined
as SEN (some of whom will have a SEN statements/EHP) and includes but not
limited to :

Interventions (in small groups or 1:1 where required.)
Hornets, Direct Instruction & Precision Monitoring (reading & spelling,) Reading
& Thinking, Fine & Gross Motor Skills, Springboard Maths and Socially
Speaking.

LSAs and TAs are used to support both in class and out in small focus groups or
one to one sessions depending on the pupil’s needs and the requirements of the
teacher.

During exams additional time or TA/LSA scribing support is given as required.

External agencies and other professionals become involved with pupils who
need extra specialised support.

2. Pupils are identified as needing additional support via information received:

Feeder schools providing information prior to transition into year 3

In the first term of year 3, baseline assessments are carried out.

Assessments are carried out throughout the school by teachers/TAs/LSA to identify
pupils with specific learning difficulties.

Teachers/TAs/LSA identify pupils who are not reaching their targets or whose progress
is slower than expected. If necessary the SENCo will be informed.
Provision is monitored by:

For children with EHCPs or Statements of SEN Provision MAPPs are compiled and
overseen by the SENCo with information accumulated by Specialist Teaching Service,
Speech & Language, Occupational Therapist and Educational Psychologist. Additional
information is supplied by the teacher/LSA with consultation from the
pupil/parent/carer. Provision MAPPs are used to show target areas to support.

For children with SEN a SEN Support Plan is compiled by the class teacher in
consultation with the SENCo, Lead TA, parents and child concerned.

For children who have any additional provision, for example those identified as more
able within their cohort or those in receipt of Pupil Premium funding, have a provision
map which outlines the provision and the target area.

The effectiveness and progress of interventions are monitored by the Lead TA through
observations and records.

Results from data compiled by teachers/LSA are used to assess progress and
effectiveness of interventions for pupils with SEND.


3.The School’s approach to teaching:
All the schools pupils have inclusion both within class and during extracurricular activities.

Strategies are developed in the classroom by SENCo/teachers/LSA/TAs for pupils with
SEND to enable them to access the curriculum.

For external trips and outings, risk assessments are carried out to ensure procedures
are in place allowing SEND pupils to participate where appropriate.

Teaching strategies are given to teachers/TAs/LSA to assist with pupils who have
specific needs.

The Learning Mentor supports pupils with emotional and social development through
1:1 or small group sessions depending on the needs of the pupil.
4. The school’s facilities including pupils with SEND:

The school buildings are not DDA compliant due to the age of the buildings. However
when fire doors are needed to be replaced they are DDA compliant.

All buildings are wheelchair accessible with ramps where necessary.

There are two fully assessable disabled toilets on the premises, one for adults use and
one for children.

A disabled parking bay is positioned nearest to reception area for easier access.

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) is put in place for any pupil with physical
disabilities, identifying the safest exit routes in the event of fire, from all areas of the
school buildings.
5. The School’s training for staff to support pupils with SEND:

Teachers/LSA/TAs are sent on relevant external courses to enhance teaching of pupils with
SEND. Further training is given to support teaching staff of pupils with individual needs.

For pupils with specialised individual needs, support from external services and course training
is given to teachers/LSA/TAs and is implemented by the Specialist Teaching Service,
Educational Psychologist or Cognition & Learning.
6. The school’s arrangements for consultation:

Parent consultation evenings are held twice a year within school where parents/carers
have the opportunity to meet and discuss pupil’s progress with class teachers.

End of year reports are sent home to parent/carers including assessment data of their
child’s progress.

Provision Maps are used for pupils identified as having specific special needs and are
overseen by the SENCo.

Pupils supported by LSA’s will communicate more frequently with parent/carer often
through a home/school book.
7. The school’s governing body involve other bodies (including health, social care, BCC
support services, voluntary & community groups) to meet the needs of pupils with
SEND and their families by using the following external agencies:














CAMH’s (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service)

Community Paediatrics
Speech & Language
Occupational Therapy
Educational Psychology
Specialist Teaching Service
Social Care
School Nurse – year 6 children or by request for additional pupils.
Educational & Welfare Officers
Woodlands Pupil Referral Unit
Counsellors – when individual pupils require additional counselling.
8. The school’s arrangements for pupils with SEND transferring between other
education providers:

Children in transition from year 2 to year 3, will be visited by either the SENCo or the
year 3 class teacher. Transition arrangements are made on an individual basis and on
an assessment of the child’s needs.

Children in transition from year 6, will have information compiled together by their class
teachers/LSA and SENCo as to the type of support needed by each individual pupil as
they enter year 7.

The new schools representative or SENCo will visit each pupil and their current
teacher.

The pupil/parents will be given the opportunity to visit their chosen school prior to
induction day and more than one visit can be arranged if necessary.

Pupils arriving after year 3 or leaving to attend a new school prior to year 6 will be
supported during the transition on an individual basis.
The school collaborates between the following education providers and other settings on a
regular basis, but this list is not exhaustive: Carrington Infant School, The Marsh, Bourne
End Academy, Sir William Ramsay, Royal Grammar School, Stony Dean School,
Beaconsfield High School, Holmer green Senior School, The Beaconsfield School, Great
Marlow School, The Highcrest Academy, John Hampden Grammar School and St.
Michael’s RC School.
