School-Parent Compact Campbell Elementary School 2015 - 2016 Dear Parent/Guardian, The parents, students and staff will work jointly to share ideas to develop the school-parent compact. All parents are invited to provide input on the school-parent compact though a variety of means through surveys, Annual Title 1 Meetings and workshops. We will annually review and revise the compact based on the school’s academic achievement goals and the student’s needs. Campbell Elementary School, students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how our school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand our district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement. Fulton County Schools Goals: Graduation Rate – 90% of Fulton’s students will graduate on time. College Readiness – 85% of Fulton’s seniors will be eligible for admission to a University System of Georgia college or university Career Readiness – 100% of Fulton’s graduates will be work-ready certified Campbell Elementary School Goals: To increase students’ Lexile reading levels through technology and cross-curricular project based learning experiences. o K-2 Range: 200-500L o 3-5 Range: 500-900L To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to: School Responsibilities: Campbell Elementary School, will: 1. Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables children to meet the State’s student achievement standards by providing: Intervention and remediation programs (Early Intervention Program, Extended Learning Program, Saturday School, Summer Academy, and universal screener (STAR) Flashcards to increase vocabulary and phonemic awareness (K-2) Achievement leveled classroom grouping and teacher/student looping (K-5) Home website links, such as khanacademy.org to help with at-home tutoring (K-5) Cross-curricular integration and hands-on experiments in science (3-5) Host Reading night and Workshops that thoroughly explain Lexile levels (K-5) 2. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement Parent-teacher conferences will be held twice a year or as needed by the parent and/or teacher. 3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress and Lexile levels Parent and teachers will be able to communicate through the Teacher Parent Access Center, email, written notices, phone calls, or face to face. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities as follows: After completing mandatory Volunteer Orientation, parents are welcomed at any time to read to classes, assist with small group of students, proctor during testing, and/or assist in the media center. Attend: State of the School Address to receive information on school achievement and initiatives Coffee & Conversation to discuss school improvement goals and current progress Lunch & Learn Workshop that provided reading strategies to use with students PTA and School Governance Council Meetings to provide input in the charter school process 6. Provide parents with instructional resources to support academics in the home. The Parent Resource Center offers various curriculum resources and workshops which include but not limited to: Test Taking Strategies for Reading Workshop Leap Frog Early Reader Reading for Understanding Workshop Reading Skill Books (Context Clues, Skill Inference, Reading for Details) Reading Street Series Super Sentences Board Game Parent Responsibilities: We, as parents, will: 1. Communicate with my child’s teachers on a regular basis by: Reading the monthly newsletters Listening to School Messenger announcements, Reading and responding to the handouts that are sent home via the teacher or the Parent Liaison, Volunteering Attending parent/teacher conferences and workshops regularly. 2. Provide a home environment that encourages my child to learn by utilizing Home Access, attending academic parent workshops and checking out educational resources and materials from the Parent Resource Center and Media Center. Become involved in my child’s learning by visiting their classroom, assisting with homework and projects. Challenge myself by becoming an independent learner. I can accomplish this by setting academic goals with my teacher and having student/teacher conferences regularly. Work cooperatively with my classmates and teachers by utilizing online programs like Khan Academy, Education Galaxy, MyOn, and Edmodo to support all content areas. Read nightly for 10 - 30 minutes daily to increase my reading fluency and increase my Lexile level Utilize school resources by participating in school sponsored events and clubs such as Literacy night, Georgia Milestones Night, Family Book Club, Student Council, or Environment Club to help achieve my school’s goals, as well as my own personal goals. Utilize my individualized bookmarker to check out book from the Media Center on my grade appropriate Lexile level.
