2014 CANINE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

SATURDAY PROGRAM BIOGRAPHIES

EARTHDOG DEMONSTRATION AND INTERACTIVE PARTICIPATION – DORRIE WILSON

Dorrie Wilson, CBC, has been training animals all her life, but professionally training dogs since 1990.

She completed the Canine Behavior Counselor/Trainer program as a full time intern at the Animal

Behavior Center of New York, and received certification as a Canine Behavior

Counselor/Trainer/Instructor through the Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors. Dorrie is also a member of Association of Pet Dog Trainers. By attending lectures and seminars, she continues her education and keeps up on the latest science of canine behavior modification and training techniques. Dorrie lectures on canine behavior and training, gives presentations for elementary age children on pet dog safety and care, and is an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. Dorrie and her Dachshunds participate in the AKC sports of conformation, obedience, tracking and earth dog events.

“TEENIE DOG” RACES – PAT MICKOWSKI

Pat Temarantz-Mickowski is a certified dog trainer providing private training classes for puppies and beginner and advanced novice level canines. She specializes in dogs with behavior problems using positive motivation to find results. Pat is a seasoned instructor of 25 years, earning numerous obedience titles on her own dogs as well as for her clients. She is the Obedience/Rally Chairman for the three

Lehigh Valley Kennel Club dog shows. She is a Match Show judge, Therapy Dog Inc. Field Tester, and AKC

Canine Good Citizen Instructor. Pat is also a professional photographer, specializing in canine/family portraitures. Her work can be seen in Dog World and Dog Fancy magazines. Pat is the owner of

Temarantz Canine Photography Specialists and Patarantz Pets.

PUPPY KINDERGARTEN – DEBI EL-CHAAR

FUN AND GAMES WITH YOUR DOG – DEBI EL-CHAAR

Debi El-Chaar is the head dog trainer at Chaar Dog Training in Allentown, PA. She started riding, training and showing horses over 30 years ago. Debi transferred that passion into understanding dog training and canine psychology. She hones her skills by attending lectures, seminars and workshops with other canine educators. In addition, Debi is a certified Canine Good Citizen evaluator. She is also a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and is an instructor for a dog bite prevention program called

"Doggone Safe".

FLYBALL DEMONSTRATION – K9JYM

K9JYM is an indoor dog sports and fitness center in Colmar, PA. It is the largest activity and training center for dogs in the region. As members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, K9JYM advocates positive training techniques and mutual respect between handler and dog.

AGILITY DEMONSTRATION – LEHIGH VALLEY DREAM WEAVERS CLUB

The Lehigh Valley Dream Weavers Agility Club is dedicated to the growing sport of dog agility. The club is based in the Lehigh Valley, PA. It sponsors agility demonstrations at community events throughout the year and practice days each month to allow members to sharpen their agility skills.

Jeannette Lesher has owned a service dog since 2002. She loves to talk about her dogs and the service they provide her daily. Jeannette does demonstrations explaining what a service dog does for people and how service dogs help people cope with their disabilities.

Pam Dennison is the owner of Positive Motivation Dog Training in Washington, NJ. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the Dog Writers Association of America, is a Certified Animal

Behavior Consultant with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, and is a former member of the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors. Pam is the author of five books and has four DVD’s. She competes in competition obedience and rally, agility, sheep herding, tracking and carting.

Renee Hall, B.A., is the owner of Let’s Speak Dog Training and Sports Studio in Nazareth, PA. She is a

Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed, Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, Certified

Whistle Recall Instructor, AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, APDT Rally Obedience Judge, and CDSP

Representative and Judge. Renee is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, International

Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, Association of Animal Behavior Professionals, Golden

Retriever Club of America, and Allentown Dog Training Club. She is active in a variety of dog sports including AKC Obedience, AKC and APDT Rally, AKC Tracking, field work and agility.

EVIDENCE – DAVID ALBERTSON

David Albertson, NREMT-P, EMT-T, is a nationally certified paramedic who provides pre-hospital medicine for a community-based emergency medical service (EMS) and is a team paramedic for several local SWAT teams. David has extensive experience in K-9 search and rescue in the wilderness, water and urban environments, having responded to over 80 missions including lost victims, suspected drowning, a building explosion, and many homicide cases.

DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT CHIEF LEE LAUBACH

As the Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention – Inspections and Investigations for the City of Allentown Fire

Department, Lee T. Laubach, Jr., CFEI, manages all fire code enforcement and fire inspections and records management, and performs fire protection system plan review. He coordinates with the building, mechanical and electrical inspectors to ensure safe buildings. He performs certificate of

occupancy inspections and controls the Knox Box rapid-entry program. As Assistant Chief of Fire

Prevention, he supervises the Captain of Public Affairs and four Fire Marshals, serves as the liaison to the State Fire Marshal for the jurisdiction of Allentown, and is a Deputy to the Emergency Management

Coordinator for Homeland Security.

CANINE BLESSINGS – REVEREND MIKE NETZNIK

Michael Netznik Sr. is the Pastor at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Allentown, PA. He is also the

Chair of the Conference Committee on Finance and Administration at the Eastern Pennsylvania

Conference of The United Methodist Church. Mike has participated in canine blessings at Lehigh Valley

Kennel Club point shows and the Canine Learning Experience since 2010.

PARADE OF BREEDS – SHERRY HANLEY

Sherry Hanley is a 29 year veteran of the Lehigh County Sheriff Department in Allentown, PA. She owned a Belgian Sheepdog named Eli who was one of the therapy dogs called to comfort those affected by the 9/11 tragedy. Eli was one of the highest honored canines and was presented with the AKC's

Lifetime Achievement Ace Award. He received numerous accolades and awards from communities and kennel clubs and was inducted into the Purina Hall of Fame. Eli appeared in newspapers and magazines, and on national television. He did fundraisers for the Wounded Warrior Project, Victims &

Survivors of 9/11, and Ronald McDonald House. Eli made AKC and Belgian Sheepdog history. He was an American and Canadian Champion, a top ranked dog competing at National Dog Shows. Eli holds

Obedience, Rally, and Herding Titles. He sired and grand sired multiple champions, grand champions, and International winners in the US and Japan. Eli was named Therapy Dog Ambassador for the

National Dog Show in 2011 and is still being honored today after his sudden passing. Sherry continues to honor Eli's name and memory by continuing therapy work and fundraising with his two children,

Waylon and Wynonna, who were also named Therapy Dog Ambassadors at this year’s National Dog

Show. We are honored to have Sherry and Waylon accompany the Honor Guard for the Parade of

Breeds ceremony.

PARADE OF BREEDS – MARY MINNICH

Mary Minnich is the owner of a 13 year old German Shepherd Dog named Bryar who was one of the therapy dogs called to comfort those affected by the 9/11 tragedy. Mary and Bryar performed their therapy work in New York City with families who lost loved ones in the 2001 destruction of the World

Trade Center Towers in the attack on America on September 11, 2001. An article in the Bethlehem Press noted their amazing story, how they got there, and what they did. Mary has told us that what they did there has changed her life forever. We are all very fortunate to still have Bryar with us to accompany

Mary and the Honor Guard for the Parade of Breeds ceremony.

PARADE OF BREEDS – LEHIGH COUNTY DEPUTY SHERRIFFS

Six Deputy Sherriffs from Lehigh County will serve as the Honor Guard and flag bearers for the Parade of

Breeds ceremony opening this year’s Canine Learning Experience. They will be accompanied by Sherry

Hanley and her therapy dog Waylon and Mary Minnich and her therapy dog Bryar, who served in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy.
