Anthro club meeting 9/12/2011 Officer introduction, we’re excited to meet you! :D Interests in anthropology; four sub fields. o We’re here to connect you to resources! o Let us know what you need o We’re all a resource for one another Mission statement: As the Undergraduate Anthropology Club of Michigan State University, we seek to expose perspective anthropologists to a wealth of anthropological topics and the breadth of all four subfields. We strive to introduce students to resources and networking that will help them to further their professional and personal opportunities. We serve as a means to connect Michigan State University's body of future anthropologist to broader regional, national, and international communities. In addition, we work to bring an awareness of anthropology to the Michigan State University student body and encourage stewardship within the community. Dr. Fenton: Advisor of the club. Physical anthropologist who is a great resource! What does the club want to see? What presentations, trips, etc would interest you? o Outside academia is great! o One day to go over sub-fields and what they entail (broad overview) o Field trips! o Religion and how it is incorporated into culture. How it creates meaning. How cultures interact. o Asia! o Bones?! o Do you want a lot of professors come in? If not, what kind of speakers would you want? MSU is a Division One Research school. Focus on research going on around MSU. o Undergrads presenting, do you want to present or hear others present? Majority says yes. Field trips? In the past, gone to the field museum in Chicago, tours of labs on campus (talk to people working in the field), Kalamazoo for the Race Exhibit, AAA, BARFA, etc. AAA- in Montreal Quebec November 16th – 20th, would not go for the whole time most likely. Less than a ten hour drive, hostels are roughly 20 to 50 dollars per night. October 7th – 9th BARFAA, in Illinois great for Physical Anthropologists. MERCHANDISE! Ask us for prices! Dues are $5 per semester. Based on the honor system but keep in mind we do appreciate your contribution.
