First load any of the EBSCO databases, and then click the link, “Choose Databases” that is just above the search box. You can also use this feature to switch to a different database and run the same search. LIMIT search results by date, by type of source (newspaper, magazine, trade publication, journal, report, website), by specific assigned subject headings, by author(s), by specific periodical title, or by peer-reviewed journal. Some databases limit by media type, such as videos, audios, illustrations, maps, flags. PRINT, SAVE, or EMAIL options are available in all databases, often with choices such as printing multiple copies or multiple articles all at once; as text or as pdf, to include citations or not, to include abstracts or not. Some databases, such as CQ Researcher, allow posting links to social media, asking questions on a linked blog, or posting comments. EXPORT to bibliographic utilities is available, but none of the databases will export directly to NoodleTools’ NoodleBib. EBSCO databases export to CITAVI, EasyBib, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, Zotero. Other databases may export to different utilities. SAVE TO FOLDER option in EBSCO allows you to sign up for an account, and save your searches, your results, search alerts, and other materials that you collect into one online folder accessible from anywhere. EBSCO folders can be shared with other EBSCO users. Other databases also have accounts, with slightly varying options. SAVE SEARCHES to re-run anytime. Save the search link to email to anyone or to post on your class website. Clicking the saved search link will jump to the database, run the search, and display the results, including any recently added since the search was saved. CREATE CITATIONS within the database program for single articles or reports, or for a selection of multiple articles. All databases provide MLA and APA; some also provide many other formats. Citations may not be 100% accurate. ALERTS can be set to send to any email address, a list of articles that match your search criteria, from EBSCO databases and most of the other article databases. Alerts can be set to searches, or to specific journal titles. Journal title alerts will send you the table of contents when new issues are added to the database. TOC article titles are active links that will jump directly to that article. LISTEN to articles with EBSCO’s text to speech feature, unfortunately, only works if the text is available as HTML, not PDF. SEARCH WITHIN PUBLICATION is available in any database that has articles from multiple periodical titles. Find the journal you are interested in, and search for your topic within that publication. MOBILE APPS are available for you to use most or all of these useful features on your smartphone.
