Fundraising Events
The wear-a-onesie to school day on the 14th November, in support of childhood
diabetes, raised £176.00. On the same day the school council organised the sale of
buns and biscuits in aid of Children in Need and this raised £103.12. Thank you to
all those who contributed and donated buns and biscuits in support of these worthy
charities.
The school council have had a competition to design a logo for them
to use. The winning entry was designed by Katie (Year 6) and will be
used on their letters and information in school. The logo is shown
below:
Performances
The children and staff have been working really hard and are looking forward to
showing you their Christmas performances. Parents are allowed to video and take
photographs, but as always we remind you that these are for your own personal use.
Please ensure you do not publish any photographs or videos with staff or children,
other than your own, on the internet e.g. Facebook pages. The head teacher
reserves the right to refuse permission for individuals in the future if these conditions
are not adhered to. May we also ask that any young children who are becoming
distressed and noisy are taken out during the performance in order that everyone
has a chance to listen to the children on the stage. We will be selling drinks and
raffle tickets during the performances and these will be on sale prior to the
performance in the school hall.
News from the Governors
This section is going to be a regular feature on our newsletters in response to
parents wanting more information about the role which the governors play in relation
to school.
The governors are planning a consultation on our school uniform, as we are seeing
an increasing variety of colours being worn which detracts from the uniformity we are
aiming for. The intention will be to streamline the options, to create a simple uniform
which will create a better visual appearance when all the children are together, as
well as being clearer for parents. The consultation will allow parents to have an input
into the final decisions regarding the uniform and the date for its implementation.
We are planning to keep the main school colour of navy.
One of the governors has recently conducted a walk around school looking at Big
Maths in progress. A mental maths session was seen as well as a visit to every
classroom to see the support for children, which is in place via the classroom
environment.
All of the committees have met to review a range of school policies, look at data for
the school and groups of pupils and review the budget position. These meetings
take place half termly.
Christmas Cards
The staff would like to say thank you to the children for their lovely Christmas cards
which we are currently receiving.
Twitter
We have set up a twitter account for the school. This will be viewable only by
invitation and not accessible to the general public. We will use it to upload photos, as
this can be done much more quickly than on the website and can be done on a more
regular basis. Where we already have permission to put things on our website, we
will assume that we can use the same type of images on our twitter account. If you
do not want your child’s image to be used on our twitter account please inform the
school office by Friday 12th December.
We will send details out about how you will access the twitter account shortly.
Health and Safety
Parking
We are noticing that some pupils are being dropped off in the school car park, then
walking across the car park without an adult to enter school. Can we remind parents
that you are not permitted to use the car park without prior permission from the
Head Teacher. This includes dropping off or picking up children and turning your car
around. We have nurseries that access the car park as part of our wrap around
care. Parents dropping off and turning their car around is putting these pupils at risk
of harm which is unacceptable. Parents doing this are also putting their own child in
danger, as they should not be walking across any car park without being supervised
by an adult. Please be fair to other parents and consider your child’s and other
children’s safety when bringing your child to school, as we are extremely alarmed at
the danger which some pupils are being put in as a result of parents using the car
park for drop offs and turning.
Ice and Snow
Please make sure that we have you phone number in school so any texts re school
information can be sent to you. As already mentioned in previous letters, we always
aim to open during the snow and endeavour to get into school and will only close if
there is an health and safety issue re the site or the amount of staff in attendance in
school. We would ask all children and parents to take care on the site as the
temperature drops, as with all areas which are open to the public, they can be icy
and slippery, so appropriate shoes and care should be taken in these
circumstances. Children also need to wear warm clothing for when they are outside
at playtimes.
Mr Horan
Mr Horan, who has been working in class 1 will be leaving on Friday to complete his
training at his second placement school. We wish him well for the future and would
like to thank him for all his hard work with the pupils.
Contributions to school
A big thank you to parents for all your support with contributions to our Christmas fair
and events in school. Your generosity is much appreciated and we are all looking
forward to the Christmas events in school.
I hope everyone enjoys the Half term break and wish you all a Happy New Year.
School closes on Friday 19th January at 3.15pm and re-opens on Monday 5th
January.
