RE: 4-H Camp Counselor Application
Dear Future Camp Counselor/CIT:
Are you a 13-18 year old teen (age 13 by September 1, 2014)
looking forward to holding a leadership position at Camp
Timpoochee? Do you want to help create wonderful memories
for campers? Teen counselors will have the chance to gain
valuable leadership, citizenship and cooperation skills during the
camp week, and will have fun doing it, and we’re happy you
want to become a Camp Counselor/CIT for 2015.
Please read the information below very carefully. CITs and Counselors will be selected AFTER May 15,
2015. Counselors are selected based on their application, interview, maturity and level of participation at
counselor training. In an effort to enhance our teens’ work force preparations skills, all potential counselors
will be interviewed as part of the counselor selection process. Teens are expected to attend ALL trainings as
instructed.
WHY ARE WE HAVING TO DO AN APPLICATION PROCESS?
With the growing number of interested youth wanting to attend camp, there is an increase in teens wanting
to become Camp Counselors/CITs. The application process will help us choose those teens that are serious
about serving as Camp Counselors/CITs. It will teach those applying to fill out applications and complete
an interview, so they can be successful in the future when applying for employment.
*Not all applicants will be accepted as Counselors/CITs for camp this year.
THE PROCESS:

Application: Complete the Teen Volunteer Application. YOU need to fill out the form, not your
parent(s). Do not leave anything blank. The application can be handwritten or typed. Youth are
required to have three personal references (no relatives please!) complete the included Reference
Form. Youth are responsible for making sure their references complete the reference form and
return it to the 4-H Office.

Camp Packet: Complete the Camp Packet. A parent can help you with this paperwork.
If you are enrolled in 4-Her, do not complete the 1st page – Enrollment. Complete all other forms.
If you are not a 4-Her, you must complete all forms.

Interview: All Camp Counselor/CIT applicants will be interviewed by a panel comprised of the 4-H
Agent and adult volunteers. Interviewees will be asked about 4-H and why they think they would
make a great counselor. Interviews will be scheduled by appointment and must be completed by



Counselor training. Tentatively, trainings sessions are scheduled and youth should plan to attend all
events, unless otherwise informed.


Orientations: Teens selected to be Camp Counselors/CITs are REQUIRED to attend Camper
Orientation:
Camper Orientation – Friday, June 5, 2015
Okaloosa County 4-H Extension Office – 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM

Costs: Camp registration for Camp Counselors/CITs will be reduced from $225.00 to $175.00.
Camp Counselors/CITs are required to give a $50.00 deposit to hold their camp spots like other
campers. All camp fees are due by May 15, 2015.

Expectations: Camp Counselors/CITs are responsible for their cabin’s campers throughout the day
and night (with adult assistance). You are the group leader and role model for the younger campers.

Community Service Hours: If you are in need of community service hours for high school/future
college scholarships, you will receive credit for the hours served at camp. You are responsible for
getting the correct forms to the 4-H Agent so they can be completed and returned to you and your
school. A letter on official letterhead listing volunteer hours will be provided to each counselor after
camp.
