Bruce R. Geyer Memorial Book Scholarship Fund

Recipients will be residents of Cape Coral, Florida;

Recipients will have financial need;

Preference will be given to students seeking careers in music and/or education.

This scholarship is intended for books only; proof of charge/purchase is necessary for
award.
Charleen Belcher Olliff Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarships will be awarded to seniors majoring in Education who plan to teach in
Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Since the final internship is a full-time,
full-semester teaching assignment in a public school, this scholarship is intended to benefit
students who must resign from their jobs and make other major adjustments in their lives to
complete the internship.

It is the donor's desire to award scholarships in sufficient amounts that will allow scholarship
recipients to resign from their jobs during their internship semester or make other major
adjustments in their lives to complete the internship.

The University will submit a list of qualified applicants to faculty representatives from the
College of Education for final selection.
Douglas R. St. Cerny Scholarship Fund - Business Ethics Scholarship

EIB Criteria;

The recipient(s) will be full-time degree seeking students enrolled in the College of
Education.
E. Odell Carlton and Golda Carlton Scholarship Fund - Business Ethics Scholarship

EIB Criteria;

The recipients must be from Hardee County;

Preference will be given to students majoring in Education or Criminal Justice.
Elizabeth Franklin, George & Carol Yovanovich Memorial Scholarship Endowed Fund

Recipients will be majoring in the College of Education.
Ellen Wolfson Smyle Memorial Scholarship Endowed Fund

Recipients will be enrolled in the College of Education;

Recipients will be studying Early Childhood Education;

Recipients will be serious about becoming a teacher.
Golden Apple Teacher Recognition ProgramTM Scholarship Fund

The recipients must be teachers in the public schools of Lee County;

The recipients must wish to take a course or courses to enhance classroom skills. This
scholarship is not intended to assist teachers wishing to advance their administrative skills;

Application will be made to the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition ProgramTM;

The Golden Apple Teacher Recognition ProgramTM Scholarship Committee will determine
eligibility and make award recommendations to FGCU;

Awards will be made in an effort to cover costs of desired courses and related books and
supplies.
Linda and Bob Taylor Endowed Scholarship Fund - Business Ethics Scholarship

EIB Criteria;

Recipients must be business or education majors;

Recipients must have graduated from a high school (public or private) located in Charlotte,
Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee county;

Recipients must have been residents of the five-county area for the past two years;

Recipients must be drug-free and crime-free as demonstrated by an absence of any
criminal record.
Robert A. Weiss, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

The recipients must have at least 2.5 out of 4.0 grade point average;

The recipients must be studying elementary education with the intent to teach;

The scholarship will be awarded to a rising junior or senior.
THA Foundation Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is to be used for tuition, fees, and books;

Recipients will have a high potential for entering and remaining in the elementary education
teaching profession;

Recipients will demonstrate strengths and interests in teaching mathematics, science and
languages;

Recipients will have graduated from high school;

Recipients will be 23 years or older;

Recipients will lack both a college degree and a fully-authorized (non-emergency, nontemporary) teaching license (credential, certificate) or hold a college degree but lacks a
fully-authorized (non-emergency, non-temporary) teaching license (credential, certificate);

Recipients will make a commitment to teach at the elementary school grade level, one year
for each year of scholarship support;

Recipients must maintain a minimum grade point average, 2.5 or higher, to maintain the
award;

Recipients must enroll full-time;

The scholarship award will vary depending on the needs of the individual students, with a
maximum award of $7,500 per year, $2,500 per semester;

Recipients must be a U.S. citizen (natural or naturalized);

Recipients agree to keep FGCU Foundation informed about his/her teaching career. In this
way, THA Foundation can accurately evaluate scholarship criteria for future recipients. (It is
the desire of THA Foundation to produce long-term teachers.

The University will present qualified candidates to the Dean of the College of Education for
the faculty's recommendations.

By April 30th of each year, the FGCU scholarship committee will provide a list of qualified
candidates to the THA board member liaison for recommendation.
William J. and Lillian S. Hudson Endowed Scholarship Fund

The recipients must be seeking a degree in political science or education;

The recipients may be either undergraduates or graduates;

The recipients must demonstrate financial need;

The awards may be used for, but are not limited to, payment of tuition, room and board,
books, supplies and other fees associated with this academic pursuit.
External Education Based Scholarships
CAPE CORAL COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
The Cape Coral Community Foundation has several Scholarship Funds available. In our
2006/2007 Scholarship cycle we awarded 33 recipients over $60,000 dollars to assist them in
continuing their education. Scholarship eligibility varies according to the specific criteria of the
Scholarship Fund that was established by the fund’s donor. Please review the information
regarding eligibility and criteria as each Scholarship Fund is unique.
SCHOLARSHIPS
1.
The Bagley Scholarship Fund was created to assist Cape Coral Hospital employees who
wish to continue their education in hospital-based healthcare.
2.
The Beier Scholarship Fund was created to assist high school students on a needs basis
to further their education by attending a two or four year college full time.
3.
The Bird Scholarship Fund was created to assist students that attend Faith Presbyterian
Church or have family members that attend the church. Applications can be obtained at the
Faith Presbyterian Church office.
4.
The Brighten the Corner Scholarship Fund was created to assist young people who may
have thought education opportunities beyond high school would not be available to them.
An 85% attendance in a Christian Service of their choice is required. At this time all
openings for this scholarship have been filled.
5.
The Helen & Edward Brancati Teacher Development Scholarship was created to assist
teachers employed by an accredited school in the United States who are seeking to
continue their education.
6.
The Holmes Scholarship Fund was created to assist Cape Coral High School Students
interested in continuing their education while studying the sciences.
7.
Jon Kersten Memorial Scholarship Fund The Jon Kersten Memorial Scholarship Fund
was established by the Board of Directors of FMBC, the Florida Marching Band Coalition, in
memory of Jon Kersten, the founder of FMBC. It is intended to provide financial assistance
to high school seniors who have been 4-year members of their high school band program,
and who intend to pursue their a college or University degree in Music, Music Education, or
the Fine Arts. A scholarship fund has been created in honor of Jon Kersten.
8.
The JSC Priority Scholarship Fundwas created to assist one female and one male
athlete from North Fort Myers High School in continuing their education beyond high school.

9.
The Rotary Club of Cape Coral Goldcoast Scholarship Fundwas created by the
Goldcoast Rotarians to assist eligible high school seniors, with a minimum un-weighted
GPA of 3.2, to further their education by attending college.

In order for the Cape Coral Community Foundation to fund your scholarship please fill out this
funding request and mail this form to the Cape Coral Community Foundation office at 4729
Vincennes Blvd., Cape Coral, Florida 33904. You may also fax it to 542-8307 or email it to
michelle@capecoralcf.org.
Please note: No funds will be forwarded to your school of choice until this form has been
completed and returned. Funds are only payable to your school of choice; they will not be made
payable to a company or individual. Funding Requests must be returned a minimum of 10 days
prior to your school’s final payment due date.

HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND
More than $2 million will be awarded in scholarships to more than 500 deserving Hispanic
students from the United States and Puerto Rico. To qualify for the scholarships, undergraduate
and graduate students must maintain a 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA; be a U.S. citizen or permanent
resident residing in the United States or Puerto Rico; be enrolled full-time at an accredited
university for the upcoming school year; and must demonstrate financial needs. For more

THE LEON BRADLEY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Leon Bradley Scholarship Program is established to encourage more minorities or persons of
color to enter the teaching profession. American Association of School Personnel Administrators
(AASPA) believes that it is of benefit for all students to experience diversity among the teachers
who serve as role models for our students. Thus, AASPA will annually award two scholarships to
assist a minority college student seeking their initial teaching certification and/or endorsement.
One scholarship will be for $2000 granted for the student's final year, which includes student
teaching. The second scholarship will be for $1000 granted for a minority paraprofessional
career-changer in his/her final year of teacher preparation. Checks will be sent directly to the
college or university to verify that the applicant is a full-time student and is pursuing a prescribed
course of study for initial teacher certification and/or endorsement before applying any money to
the costs.

SPOUSES TO TEACHERS
This Department of Defense pilot program currently helps military spouses living in California,
Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Kansas,
Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah become public school teachers. The program
provides information and tuition assistance, and may expand to include other states in the future.

STATE FARM HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND

State Farm Companies Foundation has assisted Hispanic college students through its
relationship with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund since 1990. Each year, we provide
scholarships in the amount of $2,500 to twenty (20) Hispanic college students who are
pursuing a teaching career.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund administers the program for State Farm Companies
Foundation. Applications become available August 1st, the deadline to submit an
application is October 16th (application must be postmarked by October 16th)


UNCOMMON FRIENDS FOUNDATION
Students must apply to be nominated by the College of Education for the opportunity to receive a
$400 scholarship for books.

TEACH GRANT
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program,
provides up to $4,000 a year in grant assistance to students who are completing or who plan to
complete course work needed to begin a career in teaching.

Graduate (Post-Baccalaureate) Scholarships
THE HELEN & EDWARD BRANCATI TEACHER DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP
The Helen & Edward Brancati Teacher Development Scholarship was begun in memory of our
parents who felt that education was the door to the future and that a good teacher was the key.
One scholarship between $750 to $1,000 is awarded annually to the teacher who best
exemplifies the dedication to the principles and high professional standards of Helen and Edward
Brancati.
