Update Family Income Estimate online tutorial—transcript
Don’t wait in line, jump online.
If you need to update your family income estimate, do it online.
We use your family income estimate to work out how much family assistance you get, like Family Tax Benefit and
Child Care Benefit.
It’s important that you try to give us the most accurate family income estimate you can, so we can pay you the right
amount of family assistance.
Here’s how to update your family income estimate online:
Once you have logged into myGov and selected your Centrelink online account, you can update your family income
estimate. To do this, select the menu icon at the top left of your Centrelink online account homepage.
From the side menu select ‘Family Assistance’ then ‘Update Family Income Estimate’.
You may also select the ‘new Family Income Estimate’ link within the ‘Reminders’ tile on your account homepage.
You can update your estimate for the current financial year at any time. Between the 1st of April and the 30th of
June each year you can also update your estimate for the next financial year.
For more information on updating your family income estimate, select the ‘tips on updating your income estimate’
link.
Now select which financial year you wish to update.
You must now answer questions in relation to your income details. If you have a partner, you must also provide
their income details.
Further information may need to be provided, based on the answers you select, such as your taxable income,
superannuation contributions and investment losses. Select the links provided for more information.
Once you have answered all questions marked with a red asterisk, select ‘Continue’.

Once again, answer all questions marked with a red asterisk, then select ‘Continue’.
A warning may appear here if the details you have provided vary from those previously provided. Please read these
details carefully to ensure they are accurate before selecting ‘Continue’.
The ‘Review and submit’ page summarises your updated income estimate details. You must check these details and
update if required by selecting the individual components.
Now accept the declaration by ticking the box, then select ‘Submit’.
Your update is now complete and a receipt number is provided for your records. You can choose to print this page
or select ‘Return Home’ to return to your online account homepage.
Once back at your account homepage, you can complete many other transactions as required. For your security
ensure you ‘logoff’ once you have finished using your Centrelink online account.
While you’re online, remember to create a myGov account to link your Centrelink online account and other
government services online.
