2015 Junior Coach Application
The Lenah Run Froggers Swim team is seeking professional, dedicated, mature Junior
Coaches for the 2015 summer season. We are looking for coaches that want to take a
leadership position in our team's development. The successful candidate should possess the
following skill set:
•
Possess a high level of maturity, sportsmanship and leadership ability
•
Possess willingness to respect, work and cooperate with other coaches, swim team
members, parents, and any other members or guests of Lenah Run.
•
Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for teaching and motivating young swimmers of all
ability levels including pre-competitive and competitive level swimmers
•
Possess a depth of knowledge and ability to teach and develop proper swimming
techniques;
•
Emphasizes stroke and turn fundamentals with encouragement and praise
•
Uses demonstrations and/or presentations
•
Provides constructive feedback
•
Understand swim team practice training procedures and keep athletes engaged in
productive activity
•
Understand standards of behavior and use appropriate discipline when necessary
•
Knowledge of latest safety standards and information related to aquatics; Lifeguard Training,
First Aid, and CPR is a plus
•
Must be 15 years old by June 1st, 2015.
Responsibilities for the Junior Coach position:
•
Reports directly to Head Coach and as such, issues should be brought to the attention of
the Head Coach.
• Arrive 15 minutes early to practices and meets. Coordinates with Head Coach to accomplish
workouts and provide consistent coaching philosophy
•
Expected to be at all practices (other than their own) and stroke/DQ clinics, as directed by
the Head Coach.
•
If unable to attend a practice or clinic, please notify coaching staff. Cell phone numbers
of coaches will be provided.
• If unable to attend own practice session, you may not coach for the day unless a valid
reason has been given to the Head Coach. Whether the reason is valid or not is at the
discretion of the Head Coach.
•
Pay is deducted for each day of missed coaching. After 3 days of unexcused absences
from coaching, the Head Coach and Lenah Run Froggers’ Board have the authority to dismiss
the Junior Coach from their position. At which point, the Coach, with approval from the Board,
may appoint another Senior Coach from the pool of original candidates.
•
Conduct practice sessions with stroke coaching and drills under the guidance of the
Head and Assistant Head Coach.
•
Expected to work at meets. Will rotate from the Coaches deck, team area and clerk of
course. Expected to find, manage and encourage swimmers and help set up relays.
•
Ensure that safety is exercised during all swim team activities
•
Review meet sheet with coaches and provide input when necessary
•
Praise swimmer progress or redirect them to the goal at hand. Keep it simple and
positive!
•
Attend team building activities and display leadership and enthusiasm. Help with the
cheers, make pep rallies fun by participating.
•
Actively provide in-water instruction to swimmers. Out-of-water instruction should also
be used when appropriate.
•
Provide assistance to swimmers that have DQ’ed on strokes after meets under direction
of Head Coach/Assistant Head Coach.
•
Expected to be at the pool 15 minutes early to set up the pool for practice and assist in
taking down the swim equipment at the end of practice.
• Understand swim team practice training procedures and keep athletes engaged in
productive activity
•
Understand standards of behavior and use appropriate discipline when necessary
Application Process
• Junior Coaches Candidates must be 15 years old by June 1st of the calendar year.
• In an attempt to provide as many interested swimmers the opportunity to be Junior
Coaches, these positions are valid for one season and do not guarantee a Junior
Coaching position for the next season. An application must be submitted for each
season.
• Swimmers interested in the Junior coaching positions should submit an application found
on the Frogger Website to be considered for the job of Junior Coach to the Froggers
Board.
• Items that will be considered in the selection process are:
• the number of years the candidate has been swimming
• maturity level of candidate
• Previous history of being prompt and responsible
• Ability to take direction from Coaches
• Experience working with younger kids, such as, babysitting or volunteer
work.
• Candidate’s application stating why they are interested in the position
• Candidates must be available for an interview with the Head Coach if requested.
• Review and Final Approval of candidates will be voted by the Froggers Board. If parents
of Junior Coach candidates are on the Froggers Board, they must recuse themselves in
the interview process. Although, they may provide opinions and feedback.
• Applications will be accepted from March 8th to April 10th. All applications should be
sent to Patty Barker at pattycbarker@yahoo.com. Interviews will be conducted between
April 12th and May 2nd. Decisions will be made no later than May 10th, and selected
coaches will be notified by phone.
• Junior Coaches must sign a Contract for final acceptance. The contract will include such
things as rules of sportsmanship and no cell phone/texting on the pool deck while
coaching.
• Junior Coaches will be paid bi-weekly.
