About the Author
Ashok Agarwal is the Director of the Andrology Laboratory and Reproductive Tissue Bank, and the Director
of Research at the Center for Reproductive Medicine since 1993. He holds these positions at the Cleveland
Clinic, where he is a Professor at the Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Dr.
Agarwal received advanced training in Male Infertility and Reproductive Biology at the Brigham and
Womens Hospital; and served on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School (198491). He has published over
500 scientific papers and review articles in peer reviewed scientific journals; authored over 50 book
chapters, and presented more than 700 papers at scientific meetings. Dr. Agarwal is an editor of 10 medical
textbooks/manuals related to male infertility, ART, fertility preservation, DNA damage and antioxidants. He
is the Guest Editor of 4 special journal issues and an Editorial Board Member of over 20 peer-reviewed
journals. Dr. Agarwal is active in basic and clinical research, and his laboratory has trained more than 150
basic scientists and clinical researchers from the United States and other countries. In addition, over 150
medical, undergraduate, and high school students have worked in his laboratory.
Dr. Agarwal is the Program Director of the highly successful Summer Internship Course in Reproductive
Medicine. In the last 5 years, about 100 pre-medical and medical students from across the United States
and overseas have graduated from this highly competitive program. His current research interests are
focused on molecular markers of oxidative stress, DNA integrity, apoptosis in the pathophysiology of male
and female reproduction, effect of radio frequency radiation on fertility and fertility preservation in patients
with cancer.
Sonia Malik is currently the Director and HOD, Southend Fertility and IVF Center at Holy Angels Hospital,
New Delhi and Paras Southend IVF Centre, Paras Hospital, Gurgaon. She presently holds the esteemed
positions of President Elect of the Indian Fertility Society and Co-Chairperson of the Infertility Committee,
Association of Obstetricians & Gynecologists of Delhi (AOGD); and has been the Past President of Indian
Menopause Society. She has an international presence as well, as an Indian representative to International
Council of Affiliated Menopause Societies. She has also been a Scientific Collaborator in the Reproductive
Research Center, Cleveland Clinic, USA. She has been felicitated with numerous awards such as the
Chairman Appreciation Award, Indian Medical Association, Academy of Medical Sciences (National);
President Appreciation Award, Indian Medical Association, South Delhi; Scroll of Honor for Exemplary
Service to the Indian Menopause Society; Dr. Kanak Goyal Award and Scroll of Honor for Exemplary Service
to the medical profession, presented by IMA. She has numerous publications to her credit and has been the
recipient of Best Paper Award, FOGSI (1999) and Best Paper Award, Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction
(1997). She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Midlife Health and is also a contributing member of the
editorial boards of many other journals. Her areas of interest include Reproductive Endocrinology,
Reproductive Immunology, Genital Tuberculosis and Premature Ovarian Failure.
