Monday –
Language Arts Objective: The students will be able to comprehend, identify, and use action verbs in
writing.
Reading Objective: The students will be able to work collaboratively while reading a picture book in a
group, identifying figurative language, and writing its literal meaning.
Language Arts Standard: LS 6.1
Reading Standard: RL 6.4
Activities:

 Review action verbs: notes/return to SOD and label
 Collaboratively complete pg. 90
 Review figurative language previously discussed
 In groups, students will read picture books and identify figurative language

with teacher assistance.
Reading Objective: The students will be able to comprehend main events in chapter 6 of A Long Way
from Chicago.

 Introduce helping verbs: notes (definition & list 23)/song

Reading Objective: The students will be able to use context clues from the novel to match unknown
words to their definitions.

 Write two sentences containing helping and action verbs
 Matching activity: students use context clues from novel to match new vocabulary words with
meanings
 Review vocabulary words #16-24

helping verbs.
Reading Objective: The students will be able to accurately recall and define vocabulary words and
identify figurative language on a quiz.
