Department of the Treasury
The US Treasury’s main goal is to maintain a strong economy and create economic
and job opportunities. In doing so promoting the conditions that allow economic
growth and stability, strengthen national security by dealing threats and protecting
the integrity of the financial system. They also manage the U.S. Government’s
finances and resources effectively. There is a long list of thing the treasury
department does, some include managing Federal finances, collecting taxes, duties
and monies paid to and due to the U.S. and paying all bills of the U.S., currency and
coinage, supervising national banks and thrift institutions; and enforcing Federal
finance and tax laws. There are ten smaller subunits of the treasury. The general
counsel leader is Christopher J. Meade. The secretary for domestic finance is Marry
Miller. Lastly, the fiscal assistant secretary is Richard Gregg. They are domestic
finance, economic policy, general council, international affairs, legislative affairs,
management, public affairs, tax policy, terrorism and financial intelligence (TFI), and
treasurer of the United States. The current budget for the treasury is $13.8 billion to
fund the departments operating bureaus and $2.6 billion for international
programs. In current events, foreign holdings of US Treasury debt up; Russia
unloads almost 21 percent of its holdings. The United States debt rose 1% due the
things going on in Ukraine. Russia also owns $100.4 Billion worth of US treasury
securities.

Department of Homeland Security
What does it do? The department of homeland security protects against terrorists
and border control. They also have FEMA which goes to countries to help with the
clean up and help provide resources.
Current Events: There are many events that the department of homeland security is
dealing with as of right now. There were stolen European passports on a missing
plane, and there was a bomb threat on a plane that landed in turkey.
Current budget & number of employees: The department of homeland security
currently employs 216,000 people. A total of $42.7 billion for the department of
homeland security.
Subunits: there are a total of 22 agencies. A couple are, cyber security and
technology, transportation systems, border security and immigration enforcement.

Current event: 40 veterans died while 3 hospitals staff was put on administrative
leave. All of the VA doctors were no where to be found and now congress is looking
into this investigation. This occurred in Arizona.
Roles:
Deputy, Sloan D Gibson - he is responablility for the national wide health care for the
veterans and helps get benefits for them.
Secretary- Eric K Shinseki- head of the department and deals with all the benefits
that the veterans receive
