Vigo Parish Council are looking for expressions of interest from persons, individuals
or contractors, to replace the current Parish Contractor when the contract finishes in
March 2015
Vigo village is a large village of 800 homes. Within the area there are considerable
community spaces of grassed verges and woodland extending to some 55 acres
Vigo Parish Council (VPC) is responsible for maintaining these areas; to do this it currently
employs 3 contractors:
The Parish Contractor
Grass Cutting Contractor
Tree Works Contractor
The Tree works & Grass cutting contracts are separate contracts and are expected to
continue for the immediate future
The current Vigo Parish Contractor works in partnership with VPC. The contractor acts in the
best interest of the Parish and Village in reporting maintenance issues to the parish and
attending to such issues that arise. If necessary the Contractor will arrange, either directly or
through the Parish, for other contractors, such as the Grass cutting contractor or tree works
contractor, to attend.
It is proposed to let the contract in two parts (A & B). Interested parties can apply for either
A or B or both.
Please note that the requirements for tenderers will include that they have Public liability
insurance of £10,000,000 and also a waste carrier’s licence.
Part A. Cyclical and other Environmental maintenance works.
Examples of activities carried out are:
Cutting back encroaching undergrowth at woodland and grass margins, leaf blowing of main
paths in autumn, mowing and clearing of path margins, trimming/hedging shrubs, planting
spring bulbs, painting metal benches and bollards, keeping paths clear from overhanging
branches, daily inspection of Village and dealing with any issues that arise.
Arranging for other contractors to attend and assisting them as required.
Part B. Routine Inspections and Litter collection.
Daily litter collection and clearing of selected areas of Vigo such as the Multi use games
area and adjacent teen shelter, play park, village green, The Bay shopping area, public car
park around recycling bins.
Weekly clean of the Bus Shelter, Teen shelter, and pedestrian underpass ( disinfect and
wash) .
Weekly litter collection of whole village (VPC provides free of charge a euro bin for disposal
of any litter collected). Any items requiring attention, noted during litter collection, to be
notified to VPC for action.
During cold and snow conditions, spread salt/grit (provided) to designated areas in the
village centre.
