Frost Contemporary American Indian Art Gallery is dedicated to honor the creative cultural contributions of American Indian people to contemporary art, and to insure that Indian artists will always have a place to celebrate that contribution. Recent Exhibitions: Rick Gendron MAM is honored to host Spokane artist Ric Gendron's exhibition entitled Rattlebone. Gendron, a member of the Arrow Lakes Band of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville, has an expressive style elucidating compositions rooted in his culture's traditions and the 1 stories of his own experiences. DATES: November 02, 2012 - March 31, 2013 Dwayne Wilcox Ledger Art has a rich history with the Plains people, but like many contemporary artists, Wilcox uses the ledger paper as a platform for contemporary expression. Wilcox is unique amongst many of the contemporary ledger artists, for his work is steeped in humor and irony. DATES: June 01 - October 21, 2012 Rick Bartow Rick Bartow was born on the coast of Oregon at Newport in 1946, not far from his ancestral lands in northern California. Bartow is a Native American of Wiyot heritage and this cultural foundation has played a large role in his art as a source of imagery and story. Additionally, he has always acknowledged a deep debt to contemporary Native American 2 artists such as Fritz Scholder, Joe Feddersen, Lillian Pitt, and James Lavadour. DATES: November 04, 2011 - January 31, 2012 James Lavadour MAM is delighted to host James Lavadour: Horse Stories, one of the region's most celebrated and respected artists. Lavadour has been described as a self taught painter, but the works featured in this exhibition speak more than ever to a mature, savvy, driven and hard working contemporary artist. Born in Billings, MT and raised on the nearby Crow Indian Reservation, Red Star’s visual language speaks sincerely about her experiences as a Crow Indian in contemporary 3 society.
