Section 1: Purpose
The role will form part of a Business Analyst resource pool within the Product and Asset Management (PAM)
Team. It is intended that resources will regularly (typically six monthly / annually) rotate across a number of
portfolios areas to gain a broad experience and skills across all areas of the PAM business. In addition,
there may be Project based placements of a shorter duration where there is a specific business need or
project deliverable.
Working across Service Delivery, the broader Sydney Water organisation and key external regulators,
customers & stakeholders to provide knowledge and experience that will support the functions of the
Product and Asset Management team. This includes the ability to analyse data, interpret trends and
understand customer needs to support the development of robust 5 year business strategies, plans, policies
and procedures related to product and asset management.
The role will also support the assurance framework for Service Delivery through the development and
implementation of the Service Delivery Integrated Management System, and provide input into effective
business and regulatory reporting requirements.

Product and asset management

Assist in the development of product and asset management strategies, 5 year plans, policies and standards.
Undertake research, provide analysis and communicate findings to develop and maintain asset plans in
accordance with Sydney Water’s Strategic Framework for Asset Management and to support business
improvement initiatives
Analyse product/asset performance, cost Vs risk to identify improvement opportunities to deliver value to
customers
Analyse drivers and use to optimise asset life cycle costs
Product and asset strategy

Prepare demand / service forecasts, asset capability and service performance assessments
Identify customer needs, analyse and develop strategies to improve customer satisfaction
Support specification of water, wastewater and recycled water product needs
Undertake studies and produce evaluation reports on medium to long term system and process performance to
meet servicing strategy targets/outcomes
Undertake risk assessments and review risk management provisions
Contribute to business cases and planning reports
Provide analysis in developing innovative, integrated and sustainable product and asset management strategies
and solutions
Assist in the development of product & asset plans
Business process information strategy

Populate product and asset plans and share information from plans
Analyse information needs and apply strategies and tools to support decision-making, analysis and effective
process outputs in the asset management (life cycle) processes
Assess business options for measuring, modelling and improving business performance
Review assigned project outcomes and implement learning
Contribute to benefits realisation analysis including auditing
Integrated management system & regulatory reporting

Support the development and implementation of the Service Delivery Integrated Management System, including
the documentation of processes and procedures, and performance monitoring.
Ensure that system assurance regimes are implemented and managed, including overseeing and participating in
internal and external audit processes
Advise business areas on system accreditation where required
Provide knowledge and input to meet the requirements of business and regulatory reporting requirements

Lead the delivery of assigned projects of work within a broader Program / Portfolio of activities, ensuring that risks
and issues are monitored & controlled; dependencies and interdependencies are managed and communicated to
all stakeholders.
Provide regular progress reporting and milestone tracking against key deliverables.

Contribute and promote a safe working environment for staff, service providers through role modelling behaviours
and implementing improvement actions
Work within the Service Delivery Integrated Management System including the requirements for health & safety,
quality and environment and any other system requirements
Support the implementation Sydney Water’s Corporate management systems including Health and Safety &
Environment Management System
Provide information to report on operational performance against key performance indicators and business plan
outcomes.
Prepare presentations and information for communication to Sydney Water executives, managers, staff and
external regulators and stakeholders
Develop and maintain effective relationships and alliances with key customers, stakeholder and regulators and with
relevant external industry bodies and knowledge forums.

Working across Service Delivery and Sydney Water to provide advice, guidance and knowledge to facilitate
the development and delivery of the required Product and Asset outcomes for Sydney Water. The TIRR role
authorities that will apply to this role will include Collateral, Advise, Monitor and Co-ordinate

Knowledge, skills and experience
Basic knowledge
Formal education required.
Tertiary qualifications in planning, engineering, science, mathematics, business analysis, economics,
finance or a related discipline or a minimum of five years relevant experience.
Skills
Specific skills, software packages or licences required to perform the position and at what level.
• High-level computer skills, including advanced MS Excel and MS Access skills, with an ability to develop
knowledge of corporate systems such as Maximo, Hydra/GIS, Business Intelligence, BMIS.
• Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with experience in co-ordination, liaison and
effective business relationship building with internal and external stakeholders
• Proven ability to undertake analysis that identifies issues, trends, drivers and links to customer needs and
risk and bring meaning to the analysis for the purpose of improving our product and asset strategies

Experience
Experience needed for the position.
• Demonstrated experience in analysing and managing large volumes of data and identifying trends and
correlations, and applying statistical concepts, quality assurance and continuous improvement approaches.
• Demonstrated experience with producing high quality reports to meet business information requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in developing or improving business information systems, management systems
and processes.
Additional knowledge and skills

• Project management experience and the ability to deliver projects through all phases including initiation,
planning, delivery, review and close out.
• Understanding of the regulatory framework for the water industry
