Tools and equipment provided Tools volunteers can bring if desired Personal items to bring Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as needed Phone: 954- 357-8797 Phone: 954-357- 8797 Natural Areas Maintenance Volunteer Long Key Nature Center 3501 S.W. 130th Ave. Davie, FL 33330 954-357-8797 longkey@broward.org Park hours: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Volunteer will enhance and restore natural plant and animal habitats, to include trash removal, removal of exotic plants, planting of native vegetation, watering newly planted plant material, spraying herbicides, and similar activities as needed. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. 2 to 5: Moderate to physically demanding depending on activity and weather. No skills required. Knowledge of native and exotic plant identification helpful. Most areas are in the shade, but volunteer should prepare for sun. Restrooms are located at the nature center. Some work sites are within easy walking distance of the nature center. Others may be more distant. Individuals and small groups with prearranged project date. This is an ongoing project. Work areas will be assigned according to volunteer’s availability. Pick sticks, loppers, hand pruners, shovels, weed wrenches, spray tanks, garbage bags, and any others as needed. Any personal gardening tools. Clothes suitable for outdoor work, sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, closed-toe shoes, gloves, water and/or snack, cell phone. Personal protective equipment will be provided as needed with instruction on proper use. Ongoing. Ongoing. Ongoing. Please allow at least two weeks from submission date for approval. Volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application, which includes a background check. Volunteers must attend an initial training, which will take place on the first workday. If a group will be volunteering, then ALL participants must come to the initial training. Personal use of cell phones and other electronic devices while on volunteer duty is discouraged. Only plants, fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides provided by park staff will be used in the parks. Volunteers must agree to follow all rules and guidelines outlined by park staff. Natural Areas volunteers play an integral part in maintaining the native habitat of Long Key Nature Center. This is a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about South Florida ecosystems, including the plants and animals native to the area. Active, still accepting volunteers.
