Medication Disposal Guidelines Regular Medication Look at the bottle of the medication, if it states the month and year and not a specific date on the bottle, dispose the medication at the end of the month. Dispose the expired medication into the white waste bin labeled “Expired Mediation” located under the sink in the lab area near the alarm system. Throw the empty bottle into the trash can. When the white waste bin is full, place it on top of the biohazard bins near the emergency exit doors. ATI Waste will come and pick up it up. Control Medication Look at the bottle of the medication (Promethazine Codeine, Guaifenesin, Norco, Dilaudid, Morphine, Lorazepam IV, and Lorazepam) if it states the month and year and not a specific date on the bottle, dispose the medication at the end of the month. Before disposing an expired control medication, have another staff member witness and initial in the binder before disposing the medication.
