2.R.1-Apply sound symbol relationship to decode familiar, high
frequency words.
-Group together many high-frequency words with common
phonemes: this, that, they, the, those, there; big, but, by, best, both;
etc. Can read varied short texts, containing high-frequency words.

2.R.2-Use a picture dictionary with some use of a bilingual
dictionary.
-Can find word meanings and usage from both picture and bilingual
dictionaries.

clean my house on Saturday. I go to school on Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday.
2.R.11-Read cursive and printed materials.
-Check for comprehension in reading identical texts written in both
print and cursive. For some instruction, the teacher writes on the
board in cursive.
2.R.12-Read some common sight words.
-Student reads selected texts containing common sight words
(referencing the Dolch Word List).
2.R.13-Understand short, simple paragraphs of adapted text on a
familiar topic.
-Retell a short text. Explain a short note of excuse. (i.e. “I cannot be
at school on Monday due to…”).
