Directions for Kitchen / Bathroom Cabinets and Formica Counter Tops. Kitchen / Bathroom Cabinets: ☐ How much paint will I need? About one quart per set of five cabinets. This can vary depending on the original color and what color you have chosen. Also if you are distressing you will need less than if you are going for a solid look. ☐ Clean the cabinets thoroughly and lightly sand with the medium grit sanding sponge until all grease and rough areas are removed. ☐ If you are replacing the knobs you will want to make a templet to insure the new hardware will match the original holes. You can do this very simply by taking a piece of paper and marking the existing holes on the cabinets. Take this with you to compare and to insure you have an exact match. Otherwise you may need to fill existing holes with wood putty and drill new holes and if so, this should be done prior to painting. ☐ Select a good brush! We recommend using our Plaster Paint Signature Series brush which holds a lot of paint at one time and will provide you with good coverage and less work. ☐ Open the can and stir thoroughly before you begin and again during the process to insure the color pigment and additive are blended well. ☐ Dampen your brush before you begin (not wet) just damp. Load your brush and paint with long even strokes. Watch for and remove loose paint brush bristles that may come off while painting removing them while the paint is still wet and then paint back over those areas as needed. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying a second coat. ☐ Now you are ready to complete the look by either distressing, washing or glazing! To complete any of these looks you can find helpful tips and videos on our Facebook page or the website at www.theplasterpaintco.com ☐ The final steps- waxing and buffing! You will need to use a separate natural brush to apply the wax and we recommend the Plaster Paint Signature Series. Twirl the brush in the wax container until there is just a lite coat of wax on the brush. You need to apply only a very light coat of wax. DO NOT APPLY TO MUCH WAX as it will not be able to dry and cure properly. The wax will have a slight oily look and should be dry and ready to buff in three to five minutes. ☐ Buffing: To save time and muscle (ouch) and to achieve a beautiful finish, we recommend using the round buffing brush with an electric drill. Buff your cabinets until you see a nice satin sheen. A second coat is recommended with buffing between coats. Allow your cabinets to cure for about 7 days prior to heavy use. You can reapply wax and buff about once a year if desired or as seems necessary. ☐ To clean your cabinets always use a non-abrasive cloth and avoid harsh chemicals which could remove the finish and damage the painted surface. Apply the second coat for solid coverage let dry thoroughly. Using the sponge sanding block, lightly sand in both directions. ☐ Using the 2” flat natural brush, complete a dry brush application of the accent color. Videos and helpful tips can be found on our Facebook page and on the website at www.theplasterpaintco.com if you apply to much of the accent color or don’t like the appearance simply dry brush more of the base coat and blend. Once you have achieved the desired look allow to dry. ☐ Apply your first coat of liquid wax with the second 2” flat brush included in the kit. Apply the wax using side to side motion in long brush strokes. Allow to dry completely for about an hour and then lightly sand the surface in both directions using the sanding sponge. Repeat this step twice within 24 hours and finish with an overall light sanding in both directions. ☐ Allow your counter tops to cure for 3 to 7 days before heavy use and wear. Clean your counter tops as needed using a nonabrasive cloth and avoid harsh chemicals which could remove the finish and damage your painted surface. Always use a cutting board and avoid sitting hot pot’s and skillets directly onto the counter top. Before Blend Java Blend Before Champagne The Plaster Paint Company, 519 S.
