Course Description:
This course will explore theoretical perspectives on the mechanism of altered functioning of human
cells, organs, organ systems and the organism as a whole. Material in this course builds on the previous
knowledge of physiology and introductory pathophysiology. In addition, this course will provide
students with knowledge of basic pharmacologic concepts, including pharmacokinetics,
pharmacodynamics and pharmacotherapeutics. Drug therapy considerations in pregnant, ethnic
minority, adolescent, geriatric and frail elderly populations will be discussed.
Duties and Responsibilities:






Online course participation as agreed with course instructor/professor (this may include
webinar support)
Student support via Discussion Boards, email, etc.
May include assistance with learning activities in the simulation lab during on campus residency
(first week of September)
Grading of assignments
Regular collaboration and communication with course instructor/professor
Some class leadership/teaching as agreed with course instructor/professor

Requirements for course TA Positions include:
Experience and skills:



Expertise and experience relevant to the specific course and subject matter
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Previous teaching experience and familiarity with Blackboard 9.0 are assets
Other Requirements:



Current University of Toronto PhD Student in good standing. Preference will be given to
Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing students.
Available for in-person and/or online students and faculty consultations
Adequate technical supports, including a computer with a minimum of 1GB RAM, and
3.0Ghz single processor speed. PCs should have at least Windows XP operating system
and MACs at least MAC OSX. It is also recommended that you have DSL or Cable with at
least 1.5 Mbps download speed. Dial-up Internet is not sufficient and is not
recommended.
This position is required for the Fall and Winter Term. Preference will be given to students who apply for
this Fall term and also apply for the Winter term. If you are interested in this position, please ensure
