Intensive Services through Catholic Community Services (all requires Medicaid coverage) The WISe program is for families that are not in immediate crisis (danger to self or others) but need intensive wrap around support services in their home. To make a referral, the family must call (253) 208 1016 and do an on the phone Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths Assessment to see if the family is eligible. The FAST program is for families that are in immediate crisis (danger to self or others) and need intensive wrap around support services in their home. This is a short-term (up to 90 days) alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. It is meant to ensure safety. To make a referral, the family must call (253) 292 4200. Counseling for Students/Families who do not have medical insurance HopeSparks Healing Hearts Counseling in Puyallup has a low sliding fee scale for services, sessions may be free to those that qualify. To contact about starting services call (253) 535 8782. Sexual Minorities There is a free weekly support group for called Prism for Sexual Minorities every Tuesday in Puyallup. Grief Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital has a program called BRIDGES: A Center for Grieving Children. They have locations in Puyallup and Tacoma. Groups include: The Bridges Groups – Free bi monthly support group, includes dinner and concurrent adult group For children 4-18 years old who have experienced the death of a parent or death of a sibling. The Discoveries Groups – Free bi monthly support group, includes dinner and concurrent adult group For children 4-18 years old who are experiencing the serious diagnosis of a significant person in their lives. For adults who are experiencing the serious diagnosis of a significant person and/or caring for children who are impacted by the illness. The Passages Groups: Sliding Fee scale four session group For children 4-18 years old who have experienced a significant loss. For adults who are caring for children 4-18 years old who have experienced a significant loss. Camp Erin is a free, three-day camp experience every spring. The camp is for children ages 6-17 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Parenting Support HopeSparks has The Family Support Program that assists families with developing problem solving skills, parenting education, linking them with resources, and encouraging ways to support their children in school. HopeSparks also offers Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which is a treatment for families with children ages 2-8 years old that focuses on reducing serious childhood behavioral problems, improving parenting skills, and changing relationships. PCIT helps parents implement structure and teaches positive discipline using a concrete, skill-based approach and provides both parents and children with positive ways to relate to one another. In each session, the parent wears a small ear- piece and plays with their child as a PCIT therapist provides coaching from the other side of a one way mirror using a microphone. The therapist helps the parent practice and master new skills and the parent-child relationship is effectively strengthened through positive praise. To access services, call (253) 565 4484. Multicare offers free Parenting Classes throughout Pierce County, call (253) 697 8461 for a current schedule of classes. They also offer free in home services, such as Promoting First Relationships and the Positive Parenting Program, that are both evidence-based parenting programs provided in the home by Family Support Workers, who offer encouragement to parents and help them build on the unique strengths of their family. A Common Voice is an organization in Pierce County who have Parent Partners available to support. Parent Partners are parents who themselves have had a child with challenging mental health needs and have had experience navigating systems, such as school, medical, and juvenile court. Parent Partners are trained to give emotional support to parents, provide resources, educate parents about special education rights/laws, and attend meetings with parents on behalf of their child.
