Learning and Teaching Committee Study Abroad Science Pathway with Veterinary Medicine Experience Aim As part of the admissions and recruitment strategy, we are always looking at new ways in which we can recruit top students and increase our diversity. Over the years study abroad students have visited the Easter Bush campus on a fairly random basis or not at all. We aim to formalise this to a specific week through this study abroad collaboration, thus allowing students to fully experience Easter Bush and gain relevant information on our GEP route. The School of Veterinary Medicine, aims to team up with the College of Physical Science and Engineering to provide students with a unique and challenging opportunity - Study Abroad Science Pathway with Veterinary Medicine Experience. The inclusive one week veterinary rotation will enable students to experience at first-hand all of our research, teaching, clinical and farm facilities. The Study Abroad Science Pathway with a week’s experience in Veterinary Medicine, is aimed at students currently undertaking a science/ animal science major undergraduate degree. This pathway is designed for students who wish to study Veterinary Medicine after graduating. Through this pathway students will be able to gain a truly packed and intensive week of veterinary work experience at the world renowned Easter Bush Campus – the Roslin Institute; Equine, Farm, Small and Exotic Animal Practices; School of Veterinary Medicine teaching facilities and the University farms. Prospective Students To be considered for the Study Abroad Science Pathway with Veterinary Medicine Experience, the applicant must be an international undergraduate student, studying a Science/ Animal Science major undergraduate degree at their home institution. We anticipate that the bulk of students on this pathway will primarily be North American students who typically come and do a year/semester study abroad with the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering. At this stage we are not able to predict student numbers, however we have capped intake to 20 students for the one week Vet Medicine experience. One Week Vet Medicine Experience – Zero Credit Module All credit bearing modules will be undertaken through the College of Physical Science and Engineering and planned with the student’s home institution during the application stage. All study abroad applications will be handled by the College of Physical Science and Engineering. Before making an offer to the applicants, we will have a chance to see all applications that have chosen the One Week Vet Medicine Experience – Zero Credit Module, for final approval. Learning and Teaching Committee During the application stage students will be able to select the one week Vet Medicine experience, as a zero credit module through course finder. Please refer to the timetable attached for teaching hours and rotation information. As this is a zero credit module there will be no assessment. The one week veterinary rotation at Easter Bush, is an opportunity for students to gain work experience, network and work with some of the best researchers and clinicians in the field. Credits may count towards a student’s final degree at their home institution for the modules they have undertaken at the College of Science and Engineering. At the end of their study at Edinburgh, students will receive a transcript for the modules they have taken and this will be translated into courses taken and grades achieved. Study at Edinburgh For this particular pathway, students can study at Edinburgh for the full academic year or the spring semester.
