Permanent Technical Design Specialist Working Pattern: Full time, with applications on a job share basis welcomed Salary: £25,120 to £30,536 About the Post The Business Information Technology (BIT) Office is responsible for developing and maintaining the IT solutions and their underlying infrastructure which support and enable the business of the Parliament and its Members. The office supports approximately 1250 network users with the majority of services delivered from Holyrood. In addition, BIT also supports in excess of 100 constituency and regional offices as well as homeworkers. The office organisational structure has three main elements. These elements are the Programme Management Office, Business Applications and Infrastructure. This roles lies within the Infrastructure function and reports to the Technical Design Senior Specialist. The Technical Design Specialist, will work with the Technical Design Senior Specialist, and others, to ensure the effective planning, design and optimisation of the IT infrastructure used to support and enable the business of the Parliament. This role provides a great opportunity to develop your professional skills and knowledge and gain experience in some leading-edge technologies including Windows 10 and Office 365. You will have the opportunity to innovate using new and established technologies to help MSPs perform their duties, to support and enhance the democratic process and to engage with the people of Scotland. Duties Working collaboratively with other BIT staff, suppliers and stakeholders, you will ensure the successful delivery of projects and services. You will also ensure the continuous improvement of the technical environment taking into account business needs and the changing technology landscape. Specific duties will include: 1. Contributing to design and planning of new technical solutions 2. Implementing new technical solutions where appropriate 3. Analysing the technical performance and reliability of products, systems and services against industry standards. 4. Gathering and documenting business requirements and translating them into technical design propositions 5. Working with the BIT management team and senior technical colleagues to develop service and infrastructure improvement plans. 6. Consulting with and making recommendations to IT users and colleagues in the selection of hardware and software products to address business requirements 7. Managing incidents and problems, performing root cause analysis, documenting solutions and identifying and implementing service improvement opportunities. 8. Responsibility for contract management and supplier management/coordination Skills, Qualifications and Experience You will have relevant professional experience.
