Job Description Job title: Security Officer Reports to: Security and Caretakers Manager Responsible for: N/A Department: Security, part of Estates and Campus Services Grade: RU03 Main purpose of the job: To provide an efficient and effective Security service across all campuses of the University and any other buildings or site from time to time used or occupied by the University or any of its constituent Colleges. Main duties and responsibilities: Checking of IDs of all visitors who arrive on site as appropriate. Locking and unlocking buildings and premises as designated. Patrolling the site(s); such patrols in the evening or night may involve the handling of a dog. Providing an initial first aid service for the sites. Acting as the first response officer in the event of a fire and intruder alarms being activated. The duties to be performed may vary from site to site, but the officer will be expected to follow the standing orders for the site which he/she is carrying out his/her duties. Completing incident, accident and patrol reports. Monitoring student behaviour and aiming to keep noise to a reasonable level. Such other duties consistent with the security service as may be required by the University’s Head of Security, his deputy or the principal of the college at which the officer is based. Requirements Education and Qualifications Knowledge and skills Essential No formal qualifications are required for this role A Must hold and maintain an SIA Door Supervision Licence A/I The role holder must be able to make good decisions in emergency and stressful situations, which could happen at any time, day or night. A/I Be able to analysis through incident reports and problem areas. A/I (S)He needs to be able to administer first aid, use firefighting equipment and stop fire alarms and handle a dog. A clean full UK driving licence would be an advantage To be first aid trained A A/I Additional Information Salary range: £20,210- £21,646 p.a. The appointment is usually made at the bottom of the range In addition, an allowance of £2,105 per annum will be payable for staff whose hours are subject to a shift pattern providing cover on a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year basis. This sum is pensionable and subject to the same rate of cost of living increase as the salary. For example a cost of living award of 1% applied to salary would also be applied to this allowance. You will need to be flexible over hours worked, which will include shift cover 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Typically you will work 10 hours per shift, working 70 hours over a fortnight (14 days); which could be 50 hours week one, followed by 20 hours week two. This averages out at 35 hours per week, and a flexible approach to working is necessary. The appointment is offered on a permanent basis, subject to satisfactory references.
