Taylor Made News November 2013 Principal’s Message Movember is here! This month our students will be creating works of art in the form of mustaches with Miss Schuster in art. Movember is a month-long event of growing a moustache each November, while raising awareness of men’s cancers. Last month we all raised awareness with pink. As mentioned last month this year I am inviting the men of the Taylor School Community to join me in the challenge. I am looking for some of our men to send before pictures (a clean shaven face) to me at the begining of the month. I am then looking for more photos during Movember (especially during the awkward stages and after a proud moustache is made) to add to our board. The bulletin board will display photos of our moustaches, and pictures from school of our students with their artistic paper moustaches as well. Please send your pictures to the office to be displayed! One of our most important meetings of the year is quickly approaching, Parent/Teacher Conferences. As parents, you are your child’s most important and first teacher! The goal of conferences is for both the teacher and parent to talk and listen to have a better understanding of what your child needs to excel in school. The meeting should be a two-way conversation where as the parent you learn about your child’s progress in school and the teacher learns how your child functions at home. This is time for both to learn about skills, interests, needs, and hopes. As a parent you can prepare for this important meeting by reviewing your child’s schoolwork that comes home (including homework). Don’t be afraid to bring a list of questions you have to ask your child’s teacher. Your child’s teacher wants your child to be successful. During the conference you will hear about areas of strength and areas of challenge. Ask how your child could improve and how you could support this growth. After the conference, share what you learned with your child. Share the strengths and challenges that you heard about and how you will help your child at home. Also, ask your child for their own suggestions of how to improve. By taking this active role in conferences your child will make greater progress. Remember a successful conference takes both the teacher and parent to talk and listen. …Pete Regan...
