Town Map – Cr. Jones reported that BSC is currently working on a draft town map
Town Entrance – yet to be presented to Council and will then be displayed for public
consultation

Presidents Report:





Next combined meeting held on 4 June
Dogs cannot be prevented from being at market foreshore market because it is not an
enclosed area
A meeting has been organised for 20 May with walkers group to discuss walking tracks
within the town, results will be taken to next Presidents meeting
Training ideas for upcoming training event included; hospitality training, food handling, RSA,
RGA, First Aid
It was suggested that we see if Jo Ruffin would be available to attend one of our meetings to
give us an update on the Youth 4 Youth group
Secretary’s Report:


Merran Socha from BSC sent an email requesting a letter of Support from the Tocumwal
Chamber of Commerce for Tocumwal and Barooga to host the 2016 LGNSW Water
Management conference
Correspondence from BSC re final rent payment for Visitors Information Centre (pass onto
treasurer)

Treasurer’s Report:
Verbal report given, Steve Naughton to provide written report for minutes
Amalgamation:

Cr Jones reported on the “Fit for the Future” local government reform program and
expressed that BSC thought it would not be beneficial to amalgamate with Jerilderie Shire
Council. To explain more about the program and to provide community consultation and
information, public meetings will be held in each of the four towns during the month of May.
Tocumwal’s meeting will be held at the Community Health Activity Room at 7pm on 18 May,
2015 and an information street stall will be held in Tocumwal at 11am on 19 May, 2015
(location yet to be determined)
Toc Flyer

Initially a limited amount of interest within the community re in taking over the production
of the flyer. Tocumwal Preschool may be interested in taking over the flyer. Cr. Jones
suggested a Berrigan Shire wide flyer that would see events throughout the Shire covered
and could be an alternative to newspaper advertising. Liz is currently communicating with
the Toc Preschool re future production of the flyer
Town Map

Claire Allan at Bushlands Caravan Park is happy to work on the new town map and
associated advertising once the new map with amended street names has been provided by
the BSC
Postcards

Liz has offered to organise new postcards
Mother’s Day Classic

Two hundred and seventy one registered in this year’s event. A total of $6,296 was raised.
Chamber of Commerce donated $330 towards entertainment and other costs.
Winter Festival




Organising is well on the way for the 2015 Winter Festival to be conducted during the first
weekend of July. Activities so far include:
o Foreshore market on Sat morning
o Movies at the Golf Club Sat afternoon (PG rating) and Saturday evening (suitable for
older age group). Bookings essential
o Liz is scoping out the possibility of a Rock and Roll night on the Saturday night at the
town hall and has made a number of enquiries re bands and community groups to
coordinate the event as well as 60’s & 70’s car club attendance and to also do a
display on the foreshore on Sunday afternoon. (Yet to be confirmed).
o Sunday the Hot Rod Club are running a swap meet
o Sunday lunch time a possible straw building activity coordinated by Rotary and
including a BBQ on the foreshore
A discussion took place regarding the coordination and the promotion of events in
Tocumwal and within the Shire and how we could look at improving promotion and
communication regarding upcoming events.
Ian will contact the schools and local young musicians to look at their availability to attend
and perform at the winter festival
Advertising for the winter festival will take place when the events have been finalised but
will need to be done before the next meeting in order to get into the Winter edition of

Biggest Morning Tea – 28 May 2015

Chrissies Book Lounge and Tocumwal Antiques and Tea Rooms are supporting the Biggest
Morning Tea in their businesses and will be assisting to raise money for cancer research
Amenities Block

Cr. Jones reported that Town Beach amenities block has been planned but no further
information will be available until after the next Council Meeting

General Business



C. March away for next 3 meetings
L. Thorburn had some questions for Cr. Jones regarding land development along the railway
and adjacent land on the Newell Highway
J. Renner raised that while membership at the Gliding Club was healthy in numbers,
accommodation was not satisfactory and existing infrastructure was not adequate. A special
meeting is to be held to discuss the future of the club and if it is to relocate or look at
alternatives such as shipping containers for storage. Judy put a request to the meeting that
if anybody knew of some 40ft shipping containers that would be suitable for storage, the
Gliding Club would be very interested.
