Purpose To describe the general duties of the custodial staff 2. Scope This procedure applies to all Department Administrators/Building Principals, Teachers, Operations Department facility administrators, and all Custodial Staff 3. Definition of Terms None 4. Responsibilities Department Administrator/Building Principal – Work with the Operations Supervisor to determine the expectations of the custodial staff Teachers – Work with the Building Principal to determine the classroom expectations of the custodial staff. Operations Supervisor – Work with each Department Administrator/Building Principal, (and teachers as required) in determining cleaning expectations of the custodial staff. Supervise and direct the custodial staff in performing the tasks required to meet the expectations Custodial Staff – Perform required tasks as directed by an Operations Department administrator, or as requested by Department Administrator/Building Principal. Responsibilities 6.1 Custodial Staff shall daily: 6.1.1 6.1.2 6.1.3 6.1.4 6.1.5 6.1.6 6.1.7 6.1.8 6.2 Vacuum or wet mop classrooms, office complex, and media center areas according to floor cleaning schedule. Dust mop and use floor scrubber in gym areas according to floor cleaning schedule Dust mop tile or vacuum carpet corridors, and use floor scrubber on tile corridors Empty trash in all classrooms, bathrooms, and offices Empty pencil sharpeners in all classrooms and offices Clean and disinfect sinks in classrooms, bathrooms, offices and science rooms Wash desk tops in Special Education, Kindergarten and First Grade rooms Clean and disinfect restrooms and nurses rooms, e.g. sick bed, floors, toilets, sinks, and mirrors Clean and disinfect door handles and knobs Custodial Staff shall weekly: 6.2.1 Wash desk tops in remaining rooms at least once per week 6.3 Custodial Staff shall monthly: 6.3.1 Low and high dust all assigned areas (during project times) 6.3.2 Disinfect stair railings 6.3.3 Disinfect light switches and covers 6.3.4 Clean door and window glass (during project times) 6.4 Custodial Staff shall maintain: 6.4.1 A clean and organized, and stocked custodial closet with custodial equipment 6.4.2 A clean, organized, and stocked custodial cart with custodial equipment 6.4.3 A fully stocked custodial cart in the custodial closet in the assigned area for sub-custodian personnel 6.4.4 All equipment in proper working order 6.5 Miscellaneous: 6.5.1 6.5.2 6.6 Routines are subject to change based on Department Administrator/Building Principal emergency requirements or personnel shortages/assignments Classroom and entrance/exit doors should not be propped open or left unlocked while unattended Operations Supervisor shall: File Name: Custodial Duties 2 of 3 Created By Shun Smith 6.6.1 6.6.2 6.6.3 6.6.4 6.6.5 6.6.6 7. Visit buildings on a rotation basis to discuss staff issues Meet with Department Administrators/Building Principals as needed to discuss problems/issues Schedule a walkthrough of each building once per month with the Department Administrator/Building Principal to determine adequacy of cleaning and/or areas in need of improvement Ensure all equipment is functioning properly; arrange for repairs if required Ensure inventory of supplies is adequate to support custodial duties Meet with the Environmental Services Data Processor to determine evening custodial needs based on absences and Facility Direct Schedule Records None File Name: Custodial Duties 3 of 3 Created By Shun Smith
