Forensics Saint Stephen’s College Year 9 Crime scenarios Scenario 1: Armed Robbery Two men entered a service station at 12:49am on the 4th June 2011. The men were wearing face masks and were armed with a baseball bat and a crowbar. The men proceeded to demand cash from the sales assistant who gave them the contents of the cash register. The men fled rapidly in a northerly direction driving a white station wagon. On the way out, one of the men cut himself on a display stand positioned at the front door and the other touched the door handle with an open palm. Neither man was wearing gloves. Scenario 2: Assault On the 2nd of June 2011, a woman was walking home from work. The woman was confronted by a group of youths who demanded her handbag and any other valuables she had on her. A member of the group struck the women with their hand in the face causing her to fall down. The other members proceeded to kick the woman while she was down with one of them stomping the woman on the back extremely hard. The group went through the woman’s bag taking the majority of her belonging. However, in the struggle, one of the group members dropped the victim’s phone after taking it from her bag. Scenario 3: Grand Theft Auto Before starting work on the morning of the 1st of June, a man parked his brand new Holden Commodore sedan in a car-park behind his place of work. When he returned to his car after his shift, he found that the car was missing. Later that day, the police found the man’s car abandoned in a car park not far from where it was stolen. The stereo and other contents including golf clubs, a laptop and the man’s wallet were also missing. The perpetrators entered the car by smashing the front driver’s side window. The ignition was damaged and it looked as though the car had been hotwired. The back doors were still locked; however, both front doors were unlocked. Scenario 4: Kidnapping On the way home from work on the afternoon of the 4th of June, a man received a phone call from his wife. However, it was not his wife on the other end, a man with a raspy voice was speaking to him and said that he had taken the man’s wife and that if he ever wanted to see her again he would give the kidnapper $1 million by the end of the week. The man called the police who went to the couple’s home and found that a struggle took place in side. The front door had been broken into, the dining room table and chairs had been knocked over, the kitchen was a mess with plates and cups shattered all over the floor and there was blood on the floor of the kitchen with drag marks heading out towards the garage where it was found that the wife’s car was missing. The police also found a handwritten ransom note on the fridge. Scenario 5: Sexual Assault After a long day at university, a young girl was walking home from her lecture theatre at approximately 7pm on the 1st of June. As she was walking, she heard a rustling in the bushes beside her and before she knew it three men had grabbed her by the arms and legs and threw her to the ground. The men proceeded to assault the young girl on the ground before exiting the crime scene by foot. The girl had cuts and bruises from being hit repeatedly and her clothes were torn. She remembered noticing that one of the men was wearing a ring on his right hand which had left an imprint on her face. She struggled to her feet and found help who called the police. Scenario 6: Shooting After receiving a call over his radio on the night of the 5th, a young police detective and his partner proceeded to a robbery in progress at a local nightspot. When the police officers got to the scene, the suspects were on their way out of the scene and in the heat of the moment the suspects shot at the detectives, fatally injuring the male officer. The suspects had just robbed the nightspot stealing alcohol, cigarettes and chips and proceeded to leave the scene in a black Ford Falcon in a southerly direction. As they were leaving, they assaulted (kicked and punched) the second officer leaving him battered, bruised and bloody.
