Course Description: This course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge on decision support
systems for managers and IS developers, and gives the student introduction to the roles of computer-based
Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Expert Systems (ES) in business organizations. It also gives the basics and
fundamental concepts as well as the importance of these systems on a achieving competitive advantage to the
organizations.
Pre-requisites :
 MIS 201: Management Information Systems
 MIS 211: Introduction to Programming
Learning Outcomes:
As such, after completing this course the student should be able to:
 Understand Management Support Systems and how they are used.
 Understand decisions and how decisions are characterized.
 Define a DSS, its purpose and characteristics that we might expect
 Understand how data are organized for a DSS
 Clearly describe intelligent databases, data warehouses, online analytical processing,
Multi dimensionality and data mining.
 Compare decision making under assumed certainty, risk, and uncertainty
 Describe the DSS development process and contrast it with the SDLC
 Understand Collaborative Computing Technologies.
 Understand Executive Information and Support systems.
 Design and build a Decision Support System.

Exam Policy
No exam is repeated for absent students, for quizzes, if any student is absent, the student(s) will get zero marks.
However, in the first and second midterm, if any student(s) is absent, he has to submit his excuse to the vice
dean who will verify the excuse and decide. If the excuse is rejected; the student will get zero marks, however, if
the excuse is accepted, the exam is not repeated but the student will take marks as per ratio, he will attain in the
final exam.
