It includes the study of limits and continuity; derivatives and integrals, as well as applications. I encourage you to visit the College Board website https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse/ap-calculus-bc. Students enrolled in AP Calculus AB/BC Block are expected to take AP Calculus BC exam on May 5, 2016. About the STEM AP Calculus AB/BC Block The Georgia Department of Education is dedicated to preparing students for 21st Century workplace careers by providing high quality educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. In Georgia, STEM education is defined as an integrated curriculum (as opposed to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics taught in isolation) that is driven by problem solving, discovery, exploratory project/problem-based learning, and student-centered development of ideas and solutions. The saturation of technology in most fields means that all students – not just those who plan to pursue a STEM profession – will require a solid foundation in STEM to be productive members of the workforce. I suggest students maintain vigorous control over the calculator that they are assigned. ATTENDANCE POLICY: Any student who misses more than 6 days in a semester course will not receive credit. Additionally, students who miss more than 6 days will be subject to making up the time that they missed in each course to receive, instead of automatically receiving a waiver for excused absences. IF YOU ARE ABSENT –CHECK THE WEBSITE. YOU ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORK!!!!! MAKE-UP POLICY: Any work or test missed during an absence must be completed within two days from the absence or a maximum equal to the total number of consecutive days absent. It is your responsibility to arrange for you makeup work and a time to take a make up a test. School trips, etc are not considered absences, so no make-up days are allowed for missed assignments. It is your responsibility to get assignments before you leave and return them to me when you return. ACADEMIC HONESTY: I encourage students to work together or in groups and discuss the new topics and how to work problems. However, when a student turns in an assignment, it is to be the student’s, not a copy of someone else’s. When you work in groups on free response questions or lab assignments discussion should be about how to do the problem, not “What do I write down?” When a student turns in a paper or a homework assignment, it is expected that the student can do the problem again without the paper, or discuss it with me or to the class. AP/Honors Policy on Academic Integrity Academic dishonesty is “submission of work completed by another person as your own.” It is academically unethical and unacceptable to: Submit work completed in whole or in part by another person as if it were your own. Restate or paraphrase another writer’s work without acknowledging the source. Copy another student’s homework and submit the work as if it were the product of your own labor. Attempt to gain an advantage through the use of crib sheets, hidden notes, viewing another student’s paper, revealing the questions or answers on exams or quizzes to other students or viewing quiz or exam questions obtained by another student. Store or communicate information not distributed to students through the use of electronic devices, recording devices, cellular telephones, headsets or portable computers. Academic dishonesty of any kind is not tolerated. The student who cheats or plagiarizes will receive a zero for the assignment or test, the parent/guardian will be contacted, and the student will be referred to administration for disciplinary action.” In addition, as the teacher I reserve the right to decline to write a recommendation for college admission, scholarships, and/or summer programs for any student who has cheated in my class or any other class at WHS. Cheating in any class could result in removal from the AP Program. (BYLD): Electronic learning devices are only allowed in class when the teacher specifically asks for the students to take them out and use them for an instructional activity. At no other time should electronic devices be on or be used during class. A student will be referred to an administrator if a device is used except during a specific learning activity, and the administrator will have been informed prior to the activity taking place. If during the activity a student is texting or using the device inappropriately, he/she will be in violation of the teaching and learning component of instruction, and will also be in violation of the technology policy of CCSD. WELCOME TO MY CLASSROOM! I love teaching calculus and want to help you become the best student possible. I strongly encourage you to complete all assignments, ask questions, and see me if you need extra help. Together, we can make this an enjoyable and successful year. Mrs. Cameron AP CALCULUS AB/BC Block Mrs. Loretta Cameron 2015-2016 A copy of the syllabus can be found on my website. http://mysite.cherokee.k12.ga.us/personal/loretta_cameron/site1/default.aspx I have read the course syllabus and understand the expectations and responsibilities. If there are any questions please contact me at loretta.cameron@cherokee.k12.ga.us I understand the make-up policy and am aware that your makeup test will be different than the one given on test day. This does not mean the test will be harder or easier, longer or shorter. It only means that it will be a different version over the same material. I also understand that if I am only absent the day before a test, I am expected to take the test on the test day, and if I am absent on the test day, I should be prepared to take it the day I return. I have read and understand the Academic Honesty policy. Please return this page by Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
