DRESS CODE POLICY
Tops




Shirts and blouses must be solid color green, grey, white, or black
WSHS sponsored t-shirts may be worn
Shirts, blouses, and dresses must have sleeves, a collar and must completely cover the abdomen, back, shoulders.
Shirts or tops must cover the waistband of pants, shorts, or skirts with no midriff visible. Low-cut blouses, shirts, or tops or
extremely tight tops, tube tops, tank tops or any top that exposes cleavage are prohibited.
 Shirts, blouses, and tops must be no longer than wrist-length.
Prohibited Items
Skin-tight outer materials such as spandex
Tank tops, tube tops, sleeveless tops
Sleepwear, pajamas and/or blankets
Clothing with symbols, logos, brand names, pictures, insignias
Pants/Shorts/Skirts
 Must be tan, black, navy in color
 Acceptable styles: full length pants (straight leg, boot cut), cropped pants, cargo pants, straight legged Capri pants, walking
shorts
 Made of Cotton
 Shorts and pants must have BELT LOOPS
 Belts – fitted and through the loops
 Pants/shorts worn at the waist, appropriately sized, and a safe length.
 Pants/shorts/skirts may not be torn or shredded in anyway
 Skirts, dresses, and shorts no shorter than four (4) inches above the knee.
 Leggings are not pants and cannot be worn as pants. Leggings must be worn under appropriate length skirts or pants.

Denim
Skin tight outer materials such as spandex
Yoga pants, leggings worn as outer wear
Sheer, see-through skirts
Any torn, holey, shredded materials
Sleepwear, pajamas and/or blankets
Large, long and/or heavy chains
Clothing with symbols, logos, brand names, pictures, insignias
Head Apparel
 Head apparel (such as hoods, hats, etc.) must not be worn inside the school building, except for religious or medical reasons
Prohibited Items
 Sun glasses, except for health purposes
Footwear
 Footwear is required and must be safe and appropriate for indoor and outdoor physical activity; if sandals are worn, they must
have a heel strap that is a manufactured part of the shoe.

 Flip flops
 Heels of more than 1.5 inches in height
Outerwear
 Clothing and accessories such as backpacks, patches, jewelry, and notebooks may not display (1) racial or ethnic slurs/symbols;
(2) gang affiliations; (3) vulgar, subversive, or sexually suggestive language or images; nor promote inappropriate and/or
illegal products such as alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs.

Appropriately sized sweaters, sweatshirts, and lightweight jackets can be worn inside school for warmth .
 Must be white, tan, navy blue, black, green, gray solid colors

Game Day Sports Clothing
 Must be pre-approved by the principal (coach will inform team members who will notify teachers and administrators).
ID Badges
 ID badges are considered part of the uniform and must be worn on a lanyard around the neck at all times while a student is on
campus.
 ID badges must be presented to school or district staff upon request.
 Students must present ID badges to be scanned when receiving a tardy slip, a dress code violation or checking in or out of
school.
Prohibited Items (Re-iterated)
Prohibited items include:
(1) large, long and/or heavy chains;
(2) studded or chained accessories;
(3) sunglasses, except for health purposes;
(4) sleepwear, pajamas, and/or blankets;
(5) skin-tight outer materials such as spandex;
(6) sheer/see through clothing;
(7) facial jewelry (including tongue piercing);
(8) yoga pants, sweatpants, leggings (except under skirt or pants);
(9) house shoes/slippers, flip-flops; and
(10) torn, holey or shredded clothing
(11) any denim clothing
(12) heels more than 1.5 in height
The school administration reserves the right to determine whether the student’s attire is within the limits of decency, modesty, and
safety.
The principal may allow exceptions in special circumstances, or for occasions such as holidays and special performances. The
principal may further prescribe dress in certain classes such as physical education, vocational education, and science labs.
Consequences
The student handbook will serve as the first warning about dress code. From the first day of school, any student not attired in
accordance with the policy MUST BE CORRECTED BEFORE RETURNING
1. First violation: The parent will be notified. The student shall be directed to correct the violation by putting on appropriate
clothing, allowing an administrator to correct the violation or contacting parents for correct clothing. The student will not
return to the classroom until the violation is corrected.
2. Second violation: Mandatory parent conference. The parent will be notified. The student shall be directed to correct the
violation by putting on appropriate clothing, allowing an administrator to correct the violation or contacting parents for
correct clothing. The student will not return to the classroom until the violation is corrected.
3. Repeat offenders shall be subject to additional measures, which include parent conferences, Saturday School, and out-ofschool suspensions as described in the district-wide discipline policy.
