9.30-12.30 h. Basic concepts for the study of plants[Theory].(Botany Lab., Faculty of
Sciences IV).
- From roots to fruits; knowing the parts of a plant.
- What is a species? Basic unit of biodiversity.
- About botanical names. Usefulness of scientific nomenclature.
- Learning to recognize the main botanical families in Alicante (Brassicaceae,
Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, Fabaceae, Liliaceae and Poaceae).
12.30-14.00 h. A walk in the U.A. Campus[Practical]. (Meeting point: Faculty of Sciences
IV).
- Introduction to the study of live plants. Recognizement of the main botanical
families. Sample collections for study.
-------------------------------- (Lunch-free time) -------------------------------16.00-18.30 h. Studying plants into the lab. [Practical].(Botany Lab., Faculty of Sciences IV).
- Learning how to study the collected samples. Basic notions on lab work (Usage
of binocular microscopes, flowers dissection).
- Comparison between fresh samples, dried pressed samples and digital schemes.
Usefullness for families identification.
18.30-20:00 h. The reasons of plant distribution.[Theory].(Botany Lab., Faculty of Sciences
IV).
- Basic concepts on Biogeography. Influence of weather, soil, biologic history,
etc., Endemic species. Invasive plants.
SUNDAY 29-march-2015
9:00-14:30 h. Field excursion in Eagle´s Peak area.[Practical]. (Meeting point: Urb. Valle
del Sol, Mutxamel).
- Reinforcing the learnt concepts on flora and vegetation of Alicante. The
microreserve as a conservation tool. Knowing some endemic, rare and
threatened plants from Alicante.
14:30-15:00 h. Final exam and farewell. (Meeting point: Urb. Valle del Sol, Mutxamel).
