Census search for father George Worley
I have ruled out the two George Worleys that were born in Northamptonshire, so I think he really
was born in Yorkshire. However, the George Worleys in Yorkshire were born near Leeds and in
the SW, the only one born near Middlesborough was b in 1878 below. However, he is shown in
1901 census as single, living with parents – so not our George.

I can’t find any Worley born in Yorkshire around 1877 – there is a George William Worthy, but he is in a
different location in 1911, so not him. The other possibility is George Wortley above – although the
birth date is out by a year, Stockton is close to Middlesborough. There is also a George Worsley born in
1877 in Pontefract, Yorkshire, which is near Leeds, not near Middlesborough. I give up on finding which
is his ancestor.
1881 Peterborough census Mary Ellen Green and mother Sarah A Green
The mother Mary Ellen Green is easier to trace – born 4Q1878 in Peterborough. Her grandfather has
passed away, leaving his widow Mary with 9 children from age 6-27, and two children, who I have
assumed belonged to the eldest “married” daughter Sarah A, though they could have been children of
one of the eldest sons – but no sign of a wife/mother.
Mary Ellen married George Worley in 3 Qtr 1897, registration vol 3B, P. 553

1891 Census – Mary Ellen Green
In 1891 she is working as a servant in Burton upon Trent, living at home. Her mother is shown as
married to William Heath, and their children are a mixture of Greens and Heaths, so it is probable that
he is not Mary Ellen’s father. Their marriage is not registered until Jun 1899 (6b/744).

1871 Census – Sarah Ann’s parents William and Mary in
Huntingdonshire
Although Sarah Ann is not living at home in 1871, this is almost certainly her original family, as the ages
and names of the children match the 1881 census.
Her parents William Green and Mary Lovell were married 4 Qtr 1853 in Thrapston, Northamptonshire
