Diagnosis:
Nursing:
Preterm Labor
Preeclampsia
HELLP Syndrome
Vital Signs, Deep Tendon Reflexes, Lung Sounds, and pulse oximetry: every hour x 4 then every 4
hours or as indicated by patient condition.
Vital Signs every 5 minutes during loading dose. Nurse must stay with patient.
Notify Physician and stop infusion for:
Serum Magnesium Level greater than 8 meq/L
Onset or worsening of adventitious lung sounds.
Respirations less than 14 breaths per minute
Urine Output less than 30 milliliter per hour
Arreflexia
Alteration in Level of Consciousness
Onset of Chest Pain and/or Shortness of Breath
O2 Saturation less than 90%
Increase in frequency and/or intensity of contractions (if Magnesium Sulfate is being used for
tocolysis)
Strict I&O’s
every hour for pregnancy induced hypertension
every 8 hours for preterm labor
Foley catheter
Continuous pulse oximetry during loading dose
Diet:
