IB is ME! @ BCS the IB Programme is the most challenging and prestigious academic program we offer. What is IB? IB is an international academic program that has high standards in assessments, benefits from a comprehensive, balanced, common curriculum , and places an emphasis on international understanding. What is the purpose of IB? IB seeks to create independent critical thinkers with an awareness of world culture and international dynamics. This is done through a high level of academic rigor combined with emphasizing the importance of life-long learning and the importance of being involved in local and world affairs. It is designed for students intending to attend college in pursuit of a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. How does a student earn an IB Diploma? Over two years (junior and senior year) students will take a total of seven classes—three at the higher level (HL) and three at the standard level (SL) and Theory of Knowledge. Each student will also complete 150 hours of creativity, activity, and service, and write an extended essay on a topic of choice. Do I have to become a ‘diploma candidate’ in order to take advantage of an IB class? NO! Students can take IB courses as a stand-alone course and still sit for the culminating exam. Students who wish to participate in the CAS (creativity, activity, service hours) may also work with the CAS coordinator (Mrs. Prindle) to earn an IB CAS certificate. Only students who complete all of the requirements of the diploma will be eligible to earn the actual diploma. Group 1 (English): What courses do I take to earn the diploma?
