Ulm
Family Day at KAMAG: Fantastic day out for employees with family
KAMAG Transporttechnik invited all its employees with family to the firm's site in Ulm's
industrial Donautal area for the Family Day on 12th July 2014. Around 2,000 employees
and guests enjoyed the entertaining attractions, impressive vehicle presentations and
congenial atmosphere along with some tasty refreshments.
An opportunity for a day off work, but spent at work and a chance to show family their own
workplace: that's exactly what some 2,000 employees and guests did last Saturday at the
Family Day at the KAMAG site at Liststraße 3 in Ulm's industrial Donautal area. The children,
for example, were able to get an idea of where mummy or daddy spend their day when they're
not at home. However, it was not just the little ones who were impressed by the level of
technology at this world market leader: the bigger visitors were also fascinated by the
impressive vehicles and the varied programme of activities, which had been organised by the
managing directors of KAMAG, Susanne Schlegel and Andreas Kohler. The owner of the firm,
Otto Rettenmaier, was also there, along with managing directors Dr Axel Müller and Susanne
Rettenmaier of the TII Group, Otto Rettenmaier's heavy goods vehicle division, to which
KAMAG also belongs.
So it was bound to be a very special day for the visitors to enjoy: from tours of the
administrative building and production, to the apprentice workshop, good entertainment,
games, delicious food and drink and especially the vehicle presentations: groups of curious
spectators gathered for the presentations of the “Wiesel” swap body lifting truck, which quickly
and easily manoeuvres swap bodies from A to B in logistics terminals and which has made
KAMAG the market leader in the German-speaking region, as well as the TruckWiesel terminal
tractor, or the modular and self-propelled K24 heavy goods transport system. This is used
around the world to transport the heaviest loads, such as whole factory modules for power
stations, oil production installations, or entire offshore platforms, which at 15,000 tonnes are as
heavy as 15,000 medium-sized cars. A special industrial lifting transporter from the broad
range of products for the heavy duty industry was used to demonstrate how pallets with
aluminium coil can be elevated and moved.

Impressive vehicle presentation: the type 38 aluminium coil transporter impressed thanks to its sophisticated
technology and high functionality for transports at logistics yards; the TruckWiesel impressed by picking up a semitrailer.
A tire of KAMAG slag pot carrier is quite heavy: 887 kilos weighs a single tire including rim (see next picture).

A transport job that demands high concentration and alertness from the operating personnel: the world's largest slag
transporter from KAMAG at the steelworks in Oman transports slag of up to 1,000° and 130 tonnes.
While the children really enjoyed the bungee-trampoline, the goal scoring wall and the bouncy
castle, the rhythmic moves of the salsa dancers really impressed even the more committed
technology lovers among the guests. Large and small guests marvelled pneumatic and
electrical test benches of apprentices in the apprentice workshop. Trainees welded on request,
the names of guests on a plate, both the spatial thinking and dexterity was required of the
trainees for this task.
KAMAG Trainees demonstrated spatial thinking skills and dexterity who welded names on request for guests.

The “Mega Move” computer game was also a big hit – visitors were thrilled to be able to have
some fun driving the large vehicles themselves via an original remote control. The competition
to guess the weight of the tyre from the slag pot transporter including rim (right answer 887 kg)
was won by Harald Hoffmann, who was thrilled to take home a tyre voucher worth 400 euros.
The event also featured an info stand where people could find out about career opportunities
at KAMAG. A multitude of posters, footballs, baseball caps and Wiesel cuddly toys were taken
home as a memento of the wonderful day.
The event was held as a thank you by KAMAG Transporttechnik for its 233 employees, for
their outstanding efforts and excellent dedication they bring to work every day. “The continual
motivation of our employees enables us to give our customers product and service quality at
the level of a world market leader”, says the firm's owner Otto Rettenmaier. And he proudly
adds: “I am pleased with KAMAG's impressive development since the takeover 10 years ago”.
As a highly attractive employer in Ulm and the region as a whole, KAMAG places a lot of
importance on a good working environment and a constructive partnership with its employees.
The length of time people remain with the firm, the high number of 25th and 40th anniversaries
among its employees and the fact that the firm employs several generations say it all and help
to explain why the employees identify so highly with the firm.
