Sample Plan to Earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in Four Years
in a major offered by the School of Liberal Arts
Students may earn a B.A. degree in four years from the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI in one of 18 offered majors by completing an
average of 15 credit hours every fall and spring semester. The plan outlined below is one of many that could be followed, adjusting course
loads to carry more or less in the fall and spring, so long as students average 15 credit hours per semester. Students should work closely
with their advisor to develop and regularly update their “Personal Development Plan” in order to create a path to graduation that is best
suited to the student’s strengths and needs.

Key:
* Students who test out of foreign language courses can replace these classes with electives.
** Students who do not test successfully into MATH-M 118 must complete one or more lower-level math courses to develop the skills
necessary to perform well in M 118 (or a higher level course). Credits earned for these refresher math classes do not count as part of the
120 credit hours required to graduate. Note: Other MATH courses at the same level as MATH-M 118 may be chosen.
*** At least one of the courses from the Arts and Humanities or Social Sciences lists must also appear on the “Comparative World
Cultures” list.
Notes:
Study abroad, internships, research opportunities, minors, certificates, second majors and/ or other degrees can be included with adequate
advanced planning. See an advisor to discuss details.
The above plan does not include summer sessions. Completion of courses during the summer would reduce the number of credits needed
during the semester (or allow for completion of “refresher” math courses).
Please use in conjunction with the School of Liberal Arts degree planning sheet and once your major is declared, your advisement report
available in OneStart. This plan is meant as a sample and may need to be modified or altered based on course offerings. For planning
purposes only- official degree requirements may be found in the IUPUI campus bulletin, on-line at: http://bulletin.iupui.edu/ .
