TLC – Principal Responsibilities Revised 5/6/14 Communicate TLC info to staff • Share the TLC Powerpoint to the staff, along with the "tag a teacher" video clip to the staff. • Give them the application website located on the Waterloo Community School District website under "Employees, "More" and then under "Teacher Leadership Recruitment" • Personally invite individuals you believe would be viable candidates for the various TLC roles. Comprehensive process comes 1st for lead teachers, mentor coaches, academy coordinators & instructional coaches • Recruit for your Tier 1 team - this group can be chosen by nomination, volunteering, or recruitment by administration. • Team must consist of the principal, 3 teachers and 1 parent (recommended); however, it could also be principal, and 4 teachers. Form a 5-Person • The function of this team is to receive the TLC applications/materials from all candidates applying for the comprehensive TLC roles and rate them for the Tier 2 team. Tier 1 Team • Tier 1 members may not include teachers who are planning to apply for TLC roles • Tier 1 committee member names must be submitted to Heather Connolly by Monday, May 5, 2014 Remind staff about TLC deadlines • Applications will go on line April 21, 2014 • Applications are due by May 5, 2014 • All applications will be considered complete when the following have been submitted: application, evidence, 2 letters of recommendation (1 from an administrator and 1 from a peer) • The Tier 1 training will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Central Middle School auditorium. • Training will help the team understand how to consistently rate applications and will give expectations for TLC timelines • Team will use the rubric to rate each building applicant. These ratings will be sent on to the Tier 2 team Tier 1 team attends a training • The team will come to a consensus on the rating for each candidate on rating applications Recieve Tier 1 applications • Tier 1 team will receive their applications from the TLC portal. Ron will get each building an access code for priviledges to your building applicants. • Applications will include the application itself and the evidence for each application, along with letters of recommendation. (Letters of recommendation will not be seen by the entire committee. Recommendation letters will only be viewed by the principal. • All applications and evidence will be rated by the Tier 1 team using a rating rubric Tier 1 Team will • Recommendation letters will be viewed by the principal and the principal will give the candidate an overall rating on the rubric. rate all applications for their building, per position • All ratings from the Tier 1 team need to be submitted to the TLC website on the Waterloo Communnity School District page under the "upload portal" by Friday, May 16, 2014, for the comprehensive roles of lead teacher, mentor coach, academy coordinator and instructional coach. Tier 1 team submits ratings • Tier 2 training will take place on Friday, May 16, 2014 @ 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. @ the ESC • Building principal, along with 1 teacher will join the static Tier 2 team members for all positions within their building. • The function of this team is to review the ratings from the Tier 1 committee; artifacts , application, recommendation letters and interview the candidates to make a recommendation to building/district administration. • Building/district administrator makes final recommendation to the Superintendent Tier 2 Condensed process is 2nd and is a modified process for mentor teachers, model classrooms, dept. chairs, and team leads Condensed Process • The condensed process is a modified process and will take place for those applying for mentor teachers, model classroom teachers, department chairs and team leaders • This team will consist of the principal and 2 teachers (should be a subset of the Tier 1 team) • The function of this subset team will be to rate and recommend teachers who are applying for the building level roles listed in the condensed process • Recommendation letters will be viewed by the principal and the principal will give the candidate an overall rating on the rubric. • The condensed team will decide on the condensed process roles for their building and will make recommendations for these positions to the Superintendent. Annual Review Process For ALL TLC Roles Reviewing teachers within TLC roles. Tier 2 committee review • TLC leaders will be reviewed annually. • Administrator should ensure each TLC leader has developed an IPDP, using Model Teacher Leader Standards and Iowa Teaching Standards. • Teacher leaders should be reminded to maintain a reflective log throughout the year. • Teacher leaders need to compile artifacts that represent their leadership throughout the year. • Remind teachers to submit their artifacts/log to the Tier 2 committee for review • Tier 2 committee reviews artifacts/logs, peer feedback and district evaluation • Tier 2 committee recommends assignment or reassignment to the teaccher leader positions • Building/district administrators make the final recommendations to the Superintendent
