BRIGHTON ROWING CLUB The kindness and generosity of the Brighton Rowing Club family helps us to offer a wonderful rowing experience. The following is a list of much needed items that are not covered in our budget and club fees. To donate funds to purchase any of these items, or to donate the items themselves, please contact Tracy Schleyer at tracy.schleyer@brightoncrew.org or Geoffrey Hale at geoffrey.hale @brightoncrew.org OUR WISH LIST Regatta Items: Bulk Paper Goods (plates, bowls, spoons, forks, hot beverage cups) – We go through a lot.: Any Amount Non-perishable food items. – Cocoa Mix, Gatorade mix for 5 gal jug, Sterno: Any Amount $25 - $50 gift cards: Grocery Stores – Occasionally we need to supplement the food our volunteers bring and purchase food items for regattas. Gas Station Gift Cards (major chains, with stations near the boathouse or at highway rest stops). – The coach launches use gas at every practice. When pulling the boat trailer to regattas, we spend about $1 per mile on gas. Home Depot/Lowes Gift Cards – On a regular basis, we need to purchase little things like nuts & washers, bungee cords, tools, and miscellaneous hardware. (over) Naming rights: We want to convert one of our older 8 sweep boats to an Octet (8 person sculling boat). An Octet would allow us to have more scullers safely on the water at one time (there are limits to how many small boats one coach can safely supervise at once), Also, since a bigger boat is more stable, our less experienced scullers could go out in more variable river conditions. Plus, an Octet is just incredibly cool and, if rowed well, is the fastest boat on the river! Converting an existing boat to an Octet requires spending $5,000 on new riggers. Naming right to octet: $5,000 for the lifetime of the octet Naming rights to oars: $500 for one year, $1,000 for the lifetime of the oar Naming rights to recently purchased boats. 1 eight, 2 doubles, 1 quad: $2,500 for five years New launches to replace our 1970s vintage models: approx. $1500 each. New launches would not leak. These launches travel the river daily, often 2 or 3 times per day. Equipment New motors for the launches: approx. $2615 each, and we could use 3. Our current motors date from 1999-2004. New motors would be o More environmentally friendly: Meet new EPA pollution regulations, more fuel efficient, quieter on the river o Better experience for kids & coaches: stall less, quieter so kids can hear coach instruction better o Safer: have built-in safety kill switches New rolling bags for the tents we take to regattas. approx. $140 each. The old bags are worn out and have wheels missing. We need 4 of these. New rolling bag for the Camp Chef Stove. approx. $70. Old bag is torn and wheels broken. New shoes in the older boats. $80 per pair. Some of our older shoes are torn and worn, the velcro size adjustment no longer holds tightly. When kids’ feet are not securely in the shoe it is difficult for them to properly apply power. Help with Regatta Expenses Rowing is expensive, and some families have difficulty affording the expense of the regattas. Some of the regattas our team participates in requires multiple hotel nights and a longer travel distance. Financial assistance to bring the cost per rower down would be helpful for those who have difficulty with this expense. Use of passenger vans for taking smaller groups of rowers to away regattas. We spend a lot on buses and rental vans for regattas. Eliminating this expense would greatly help lower the expense for each rower. To donate funds to purchase any of these items, or to donate the items themselves, please contact Tracy Schleyer at tracy.schleyer@brightoncrew.org or Geoffrey Hale at geoffrey.hale @brightoncrew.org
