February is Black History Month, originated by Dr. Carter G. Woodson who was born to parents who were former
slaves. During the month of February we are challenging homerooms to participate in the African American History Bowl
during the morning announcements. This will lead up to the History Bowl Challenge on February 27. The homeroom or
class with the most points at the end of the month will receive a donut breakfast.
o The question for today is--- Dr. Woodson chose the second week of February for Negro History Week because
it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population. Who are the two
men? Place your answer in the container near the Attendance office by the end of today. The answer will be
given tomorrow. Good Luck!

Calling all students, clubs, history buffs and competitive forces!!! Introducing the African American History Academic
Bowl!!!! In preparation for African American History Month, we are encouraging students to form teams to participate in
the African American History Academic Bowl. The African-American History Bowl will give students and participants
the opportunity to learn more about African American history in a fun and competitive arena. This activity will be very
similar to Academic Challenge and its format. This is a great opportunity to learn more about African- American history
and its impact on our society while having fun and working as a team. The Bowl will be held on February 27, 2015.
Please pick up an entry form from Mrs. Sorrells in Room B111. (2/6)
