Workshop Descriptions: (choose one to attend)
1. Restorative Practices 101
This workshop will provide an introduction to strategies, resources and the paradigm shift of Restorative Practices
that build the capacity of schools to intentionally build community, respectfully resolve conflict, and repair harm.
Presenters: Brent Lehman is the School Services Coordinator at Community Mediation & Restorative
Services and a former Fellow, and Heather Kok is the current Promise Fellow serving at CMRS.
2. Navigating Difficult Conversations
This workshop will provide tangible strategies and tools for how to have difficult conversations and how to speak on
uncomfortable topics. You'll leave with specific techniques on how to bring up issues with youth, parents,
staff/colleagues, supervisors, etc. You can apply these skills now and in any future professional experience!
Presenter: Sinda Nichols is the Program Director at Minnesota Campus Compact where she currently
manages the College Health Corps VISTA program and is a former AmeriCorps Member.

Service Hour Policy Reminder and Resources
It’s important to remember that Promise Fellows are required to serve full-time (minimum of 40 hours/week) in
order to receive the full living allowance. With the holidays coming up, please notify your trainer with any approved
time off (i.e. holidays, sick, vacation) and be mindful of making up any missed hours to stay on track and meet
service hour requirements.
For Additional Hour Opportunities Over Breaks: Attend YIPA’s online trainings for FREE (register with MN Alliance
With Youth); catch up on Data Tracking, read professional development books; work on curriculum for your service;
or read materials and resources available on the Promise Fellow Resource Page! Ask your supervisor for site-based
opportunities to support your community!
November Data Tracking Benchmark – DUE NOVEMBER 30th
Promise Fellows should have Baseline Data, Daily ABCs, and Intervention Data complete and up to date for at least
15 Focus List Youth. With Thanksgiving at the end of the month, don’t procrastinate and wait until the last minute to
get your data done!! Contact your Trainer if you need Student Tracking support.
Grant Writing 101 Workshop- Optional, Tuesday, December 1, 2015, 12:00 -1:30pm
Do you want to learn how to write a grant? Are you curious how to begin the grant application process? Join us
December 1 for a Grant Writing 101 workshop! Grant writing is a useful skill that will serve you well, regardless of if
you plan to be a teacher, youth worker, or work in the nonprofit sector! More info will be sent out on Edmodo soon!

Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes millions of youth who make a difference in their
communities throughout the year, through service. The Alliance organizes a statewide celebration that showcases youth
performances, onsite service projects, and youth projects from across the state. We are looking for people interested in
supporting the planning of this large scale event, contact Renee (randerson@mnyouth.net) to get involved! Learn more at

Delta Dental Serve a Smile Mini-grant Grant Opportunity – Application Available in December
Minnesota Alliance With Youth, Delta Dental of Minnesota and FCCLA are pleased to announce the 13th annual Serve a Smile
grant program. Delta Dental has made available over $25,000 for mini grants of up to $1,000 to support a youth-led
service/service-learning project that addresses an important oral health or health issue. The mini grants will be awarded to
youth affiliated with schools and youth-serving community organizations in Minnesota, offering young people essential funds as
they envision ways to create healthier schools and communities. Grant Overview, Project Examples and the Serve a Smile
