Professional Goal Setting Instructions
Comprehensive Evaluation
Marzano Framework 8.4
The teacher develops a written professional growth and development plan with goals and timelines, charts his/her
progress, and makes adaptations as needed.
1. Develop one instructional goal based on the Marzano Framework self-assessment or the previous year’s
evaluation.
2. Identify two student growth goals: SG 6.1 and SG 3.1, along with multiple, high-quality sources of data that
will be used to monitor, adjust, and evaluate achievement of goals. The student growth goals and data
sources are to be approved by the evaluator by October 15th. Evidence of growth must be submitted by May
1st, or as agreed upon with evaluator.
 SG 6.1 Growth goals for whole classroom
 SG 3.1: Growth goals(s) for subgroups of students not reaching full potential
Note: SG 8.1: Team growth goal(s) will be collaboratively developed in conjunction with 6.1 and 3.1 with
grade, school or district team(s).
3. Write a plan for achieving goals, including timelines. The plan is to be approved by the evaluator.
4. Chart progress on instructional and student growth goals throughout the year. Have a mid-year formative
conversation with evaluator.
5. Make adaptation to the plan as needed throughout the year.
6. Analyze achievement of student growth goals: SG 3.2 and SG 6.2
7. If a low score is earned, refer to Student Growth Inquiry section in the Field Guide.

10/1 It went far better than I expected because students
were really forthcoming and I learned about several sources
of student disruption that I wasn’t really aware of and what I
want to do now is 1) change my seating chart to separate 4
students, 2) spend more time in all areas of my room and 3)
reconfigure my room to avoid the cold air blowing on a
group of students in the back corner.
