GENERAL GUIDANCE
Peer Mentoring and Peer Assisted Study (PASS) can only function with the dedication and
support of students and staff involved in the schemes.
It is recognised that many Mentors, PASS Leaders, Student coordinators, Staff
coordinators and administrators make exceptional voluntary contributions, far greater than
expected in their roles.
It is the commitment of these people that the Outstanding Contribution to Peer Support
Awards seeks to recognise.

GENERAL GUIDANCE
Who is eligible?
All students/staff involved with Peer Mentoring or PASS within the University of
Manchester are eligible for entry.
Criteria
The award is to recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution to peer
support and made a substantial impact in developing and strengthening their disciplines
mentoring or PASS scheme as well as contributing to the development of the Peer
Support programme through participation in wider project activity and collaboration.
Demonstration of exceptional contribution includes:




Dedication: A record of consistent and continuous involvement
Leadership: Evidence they have led and inspired others
Collaboration: Evidence of working with other peer support schemes and
participation in programme initiatives such as Myfuture fest, contribution at
meetings and focus groups, and raising awareness of Peer Support activity through
various School/University forums
Innovation: Imaginative and creative use of original or adapted ideas to enrich the
scheme
Nomination Process
Nomination is easy! Complete the short nomination form and email in a word document
format only and compile supplementary evidence.

Please subject your email ‘Outstanding Contribution 2015’
A Sabbatical Intern can provide advice and assistance in preparing your nomination
and it is advised that you make contact with them.

Nomination submission
In order to put forward a nomination, there will need to be a Principal Nominator and at
least two supporting nominators. The Principal will take responsibility for completing the
form with the supporting nominators offering a short statement of support in favour of the
individual(s) that have been put forward.
Criteria
It is important to remember that your nomination will be presented to a panel therefore you
will need to evidence dedication, leadership, collaboration and innovation in as much detail
as possible; this will help your nomination really stand out!
Additional evidence
Whilst statements from Principal and secondary nominators are essential you may want to
add further evidence to the form and this may include:






Letters of appreciation from mentees, 1st year students, mentors, PASS leaders and
staff
Materials produced by nominee i.e. newsletters, leaflets, posters
Details of activities or events organised by nominee
Website address
Details of other people who would support the nomination
Photos from events
Please note: Any additional evidence must be included only on the form.
What is the selection process?
A panel, chaired by the Chair of the Peer Support Strategy Group, and including the Head
of the Teaching and Learning Support office, Teaching and Learning Adviser (Peer
Support), a member of Faculty staff, a staff and student Peer Mentor Coordinator and a
staff and student PASS coordinator will meet to select awards from the nominations.
The awards will be presented at the Annual Students as Partners Celebration Evening on
Thursday 30th April 2015.
The closing date for nominations is Thursday 26th March 2015, 5:00pm
