Approval of March minutes
Sentinel Principal - Mr. Finch
Upcoming events – MCL, Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
1) Welcome & Introduction – Farzaneh welcomed attendees.
2) Motion to approve the March minutes by Brigid and Nola, approved by all.
3) Mr. Finch:
a) School dance was cancelled because of a lack of ticket sales. Student council needed
about 150 tickets to sell in order to break even and was able to only sell 60.
b) School play is held at Kay Meek Theatre the week of April 21st.
c) AP examination week starts on May 4th and the week before that usually is study time,
preparing students for exams.
d) This Saturday, April 11 2015, there is a community workshop held at school by a Sentinel
graduate, called “Destination Imagination”.
e) In February 2015, a few ex-Sentinel and Rockridge graduates shot a short film at Sentinel.
The event was sponsored by TELUS as an online movie competition and there were several
grants of $50,000 handed out to winners. Our graduate was among the winners. Our
graduate will be back now for a few more shootings, getting some help from kids from
Drama classes while using the school facilities at times that will not interfere with regular
school activities.
f) Graduation commencement ceremony will take place on the 13th of June and the Banquet
will be held on the 20th of June. School based exams will finish by Friday, June 19, 2015.
The following week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be classes held as
normal. However, they are non-mandatory and more for supporting students who need
help in preparation for the provincial exams. Exams will end on Wednesday, 24 June
2015.
g) The staff is trying to redesign year end academic awards to be less redundant and shorter.
The award ceremony will likely take place on Thursday, 25 June 2015.
h) The school has unfortunately been victim of graffiti recently. Based on surveillance tapes,
it is likely it is the work of a handful of grade 12 Sentinel students playing pranks.
Thousands of dollars of grad committee and school funds are spent to deal with these
pranks in order to clean up school property. If anyone has any information, please contact
Mike Finch – all information will be held strictly confidential.

Upcoming Events:
a) MCL - Multicultural lunch will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015 at lunch time. Sharon
Smith is in charge of organizing the event. There are less tables this year compared to
last. Sharon will coordinate with Farzaneh Bamani and Karim Virani in getting feedback
on ticket sales on the days before the event to have an idea for number of food orders.
Based on previous years’ track records, most ticket sales will happen during the last day.
There will be recommendation by ticket sales volunteers to students to purchase a
minimum of 10 tickets in order to buy a meal and dessert.
i) Karim Virani will be in charge of collecting all funds and cheques raised from this
event. Farzaneh Bamani will coordinate volunteers for ticket sales on Monday,
Tuesday, and Wednesday, leading up to the day of the event.
ii) Brigid Flipse will go to staples to get some advertisements printed out for school
and check if we have a sandwich board that can be placed in front of school to
remind all parents of the event date and the need for donations.
iii) Farzaneh will send out another email to reach out for help from parents, in
form of donations and volunteers. She will also stress that the food and drinks
will be served on green/compostable products, which are more costly and
healthier.
iv) Nina Nie suggested sending a personal thank you email to all the parents who
have donated funds for this event and also sending an email to everyone,
specifically naming names so that the parents who are helping get recognition, and
others get motivated to help out.
b) Staff Appreciation Luncheon – Farzaneh Bamani will send an email to coordinate a date
for this luncheon. Brigid will organize the luncheon for all staff, including custodial staff
and teaching assistants, for up to 85 people.
c) DPAC representative Lisa Lau:
i) April 9th – presentation at Chartwell Elementary school, 7pm to 9pm, “Digitized
to Death”, free.
ii) May 26th – presentation at Kay Meek Centre, 7 pm to 9 pm, “Money Smart Talk”,
tickets are $20 for West Vancouver School district residents and $25 for out of
district residents.
iii) Results of survey from parents for allocation of a one-time fund in School
district, posted on school district website.
iv) On March 4th, Farzaneh Bamani and Lisa Lau attended a DPAC meeting where
representatives from all West Vancouver School district schools presented positive
feedbacks from their schools and challenges they face, such as incorporation of the
recycling program, and drawing out parent volunteers for school events.
