授業の目標 Course Objectives
The social, economical, and environmental impacts of past water resources development and inevitable prospects of water
scarcity are driving the shift to a new paradigm in water resources management. Introduce important considerations influencing
used water reuse planning and implementation. An Overview of various water reuse applications is introduced. Introduce nonconventional engineering aspects of water reuse including satellite, decentralized, and onsite treatment and reuse systems.

授業計画 Course Schedule
(1) Introduction
Course outline and emphasis.
(2) Water reuse applications: over view:
The purpose of this topic is to identify and describe: 1) the types of applications , 2) issues in water reuse, 3) important
factors in the selection and implementation of water reuse applications, and 4) future trends in water reuse
(3) Reclaimed water use for irrigation
To provide practical information for the design, operation, and management of agricultural irrigation using reclaimed water.
(4) Reclaimed water use for industrial processes
The use of reclaimed water in industrial applications such as cooling water, boiler feedwater, and manufacturing processes.
(5) Urban non-irrigation, environmental, and recreational uses
The principal types of urban non-irrigation water reuse applications considered here include: 1) air conditioning, 2) fire
protection, 3) toilet and urinal flushing, 4) commercial applications, and 5) street cleaning and maintenance. To understand
the potential for urban non-irrigation water reuse application, the patterns of potable water use for domestic and commercial
purposes are also reviewed.
(6) Indirect potable reuse by groundwater and surface water augmentation
To increase the supply of groundwater, artificial recharge of groundwater basins is increasingly important particularly in
situation where the conjunctive use of surface water and groundwater resources is being considered.
(7) Satellite Treatment Systems for water reuse applications
The concept of satellite treatment and reuse system is introduced. Subject in this topic include: 1) planning considerations for
satellite systems, 2) satellite systems for non-agricultural water reuse applications, 3) assessing collection system
requirements, and 4) wastewater characteris-tics.
(8) Onsite and Decentralized Systems for water reuse
The concept of decentralized system is introduced and the advantages and disadvantages of the system are discussed.
