GTP Installs On-Site Hydrogen Generation System
Global Tungsten & Powders utilizes a number of key raw materials and
chemicals, including tungsten, sodium hydroxide, and various other chemicals
and gases. One key raw material GTP uses in very large quantities is hydrogen.
Much of GTP’s equipment operates under a hydrogen atmosphere allowing GTP
to achieve very specific properties in final products. A lack of hydrogen can
cause disruptions in production.
Due to the need for an uninterrupted supply of hydrogen, GTP began to work
with their hydrogen supplier to develop a long-term plan to supply most of its
hydrogen requirements on-site. On site generation mitigates supply concerns
and has the added benefits of helping GTP become considerably greener and
provides a more cost effective raw material.
A plan was developed for a system that would meet GTP’s hydrogen needs.
Working with an outside supplier GTP was able to install a system at our facility
that meets the bulk of our hydrogen requirements. The hydrogen generation
facility began running in March. The new system provides GTP with a reliable
source of high quality hydrogen using local Marcellus natural gas improving our
supply chain and protecting the environment.
