JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY: To conduct and oversee the overall hygiene and daily
cleaning of the facility. Ensure that the daily custodial staff is present and set-up for
replacements as needed. To conduct daily custodial needs such as work orders, setups for athletic and other events through the use of technology. To assist the head
custodian to maintaining the building. To lead the summer cleaning and custodial
operations during the summer months with direction from the Head custodian and
buildings and grounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties described below are
indicative of what the Lead Custodian may be asked to perform. Other duties may be
assigned.
I.
Responsibility for cleaning and general appearance of school building, including
the following:

High school graduate desirable.
Certificate of completion of low pressure boiler training is required and
must be obtained within one year of start of position.
Knowledge and understanding of cleaning and maintenance of schools or
other institutions.
An understanding of proper standards for cleanliness, maintenance, and
safety of public facilities.
Prior experience desirable.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Technical Skills: The individual must possess the following:

Skills necessary to operate such equipment as snowblowers, mowers,
cleaning scrubbers, vacuums, etc.

Fundamental painting, wallpapering, and plastering skills.
Working knowledge of all mechanical equipment and service systems in the
building.
The capability to learn the job easily and comprehend all training
procedures.
Working knowledge of current technologies and ability to change with the
fast passed technology upgrades as they apply to custodial operations.
Examples: Facility scheduling software, building automation systems,
preventive maintenance software, work order processing, access controls,
and true-time / time off software.
Fundamental knowledge of cleaning supplies, their uses and applications.
Fundamental knowledge of building maintenance and general repairs: i.e.
locks/lockers, doors/door closers, window replacement, etc.
