TASA will seek confirmation of acceptance of your paper from the conference organisers. I have not held a TASA Postgraduate Conference Scholarship previously. IMPORTANT: If you have not received an email from TASA acknowledging receipt of your nomination by the 10th of September, 2015 please contact the TASA Office (03 9214 5283) TASA Postgraduate Conference Scholarship Fund - 2015 The Closing Date is September 8th 2015 About the Award The TASA Postgraduate Conference Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 with funds donated by the former Australian Association of Social Research Inc. The scholarships aim to support postgraduate participation at TASA annual conferences. The TASA Executive would like to encourage postgraduate members to apply and also academic supervisors to encourage their students to apply for the 2015 conference. The Prize The recipient of the prize will receive: Registration for the 2015 conference; Registration for the 2015 pre-conference TASA Postgraduate Workshop; A TASA PCSF certificate; and Travel funding for 2015 scholarship recipients who reside in Qld, NSW, Vic, SA, Tas & ACT (up to $600 per scholarship) and NT & WA (up to $1000 per scholarship). Eligibility Criteria Those eligible for consideration of the scholarship will meet the following criteria: Applicant is currently enrolled in an Honours, Masters or PhD program Applicant has submitted a refereed conference paper by the Conference submission date. The selection committee will request a copy of the paper and referee reports from the Conference Organisers – the paper must be eligible for publication in the refereed conference papers. Applicant is the sole author on the paper Applicant has not previously been a recipient of the award Applicant is a financial TASA member as at the closing date for scholarship applications Applicant agrees to submit a brief report, to be published in Nexus, if awarded a scholarship The following Selection Criteria will be taken into consideration: Quality and relevance of conference paper Location/distance from conference venue Hardship Care responsibilities (where this impacts on capacity to pay for conference attendance) Commitment to TASA (eg years of membership) 30 points 30 points 20 points 10 points 10 points Each year the scholarship winner with the best paper in the research area of migration or cultural pluralism, or with the potential for contribution to public policy, will be recognised as the winner of the Jerzy Zubrzycki Postgraduate Conference Scholarship. Selection Panel Selection panel will normally consist of the Vice President (Convenor) and the Postgraduate member. Application Procedure Nominations must be made on this official nomination form and submitted, electronically, to admin@tasa.org.au by September 8th, 2015 Papers must be submitted to the refereed proceedings by the deadlines set by the Conference Local Organising Committee (LOC). Please make sure you double check this date on the TASA Conference website in case the deadline is brought forward. Applications will be reviewed by TASA Executive sub-committee and a decision will be made taking into consideration the ranking provided by the LOC Up to five scholarships may be awarded each year Applicants will be notified of the outcome in enough time for those nominees who were not successful to still register for the conference at the ‘Early Bird’ rate (around early October). The decision of the review panel is final and no further discussions will be entered into. Postgraduate conference scholarship winners will have the payment of their conference registration made by the TASA Office. Postgraduate conference scholarship winners will also be reimbursed for travel costs up to the value set based on their location. One claim may be made for each scholarship winner and must include receipts. Expenses may be claimed before or soon after the conference, as long as receipts are provided for all expenses. Please note: you will need to take out travel insurance (usually around $15) if you would like to be reimbursed before the conference. You can include the cost of travel insurance in your claim.
